CATS and Joseph auditionhey it's my first time here. i have two auditions coming up, one for CATS and one for Joseph. One is in a community theater (CATS) and the other is in my temple (Joseph). I've been in community theater shows since I was seven, and I've been in temple shows since I was ten. I'm almost sixteen, by the way.
I have honey/light blonde hair, long and straight. I have green eyes and I'm kind of tan. I'm average height and thin.
I have a lot of theater experience. My signature only shows some of my roles. I have been in many shows as ensemble parts and a few as dance captains.
I have thirteen years of ballet experience, eleven years of tap and jazz, and I've been doing modern, lyrical, and competition since I was nine. I have been taking voice lessons since I was seven and I was classically trained. I call myself a mezzo soprano belter because I was trained as a high soprano (think Phantom) but naturally I'm a belter. I can't go too low, unfortunately, so I don't have the widest range.
For CATS, I have had plenty of leads and they know me pretty well there. In the past I have played Bonnie in Anything Goes and Amneris in Aida there, to name a few. I don't know the show so well, so if someone could give me some character suggestions that would be great. I'm competing against people from ages 10 to 20. I have a good belt so I badly want to be Grizzabella (sp?), I think that's the one who sings Memory, but I'm only 15 so I don't know.
For Joseph, well I've never really seen the show. The show is ages 13 to 16, but not to brag, I'm basically the only older girl doing the show. I want to audition for the lead girl, if there is one. The temple knows me quite well, I was their Annie in Annie and Baby June in Gypsy way back when I was like, eight.
Song suggestions too please!!
Thanks if you can help.

This is only somewhat relevent, but since when are the rights to Cats out? I know there was a highschool prodcution a year or two ago...actually it was nearby (and a friend was in it), but there was a big deal made out of it and how it was a special circumstance...so I have no idea when the rights to the show came out for most amateur theatres. Also who holds the rights?
As far as your auditions, for Joseph the only lead girl is the Narrator (usually played by a girl) which is a huuuuge part. So sounds like you want to go for her. Not really sure what to do song wise for that not knowing your specific range, but if you can get a CD and listen to the part then you should be able to get an idea.
Cats...I know little about other than that its a huuuuge dance show. With your amount of dance experience (have you really danced since you were 2? thats crazy) you should probably go for one of the major dance parts (as they will need as many good dancers as possible). Grizzabella, to my knowledge, doesn't do much dancing so maybe thats not the part for you (really theres a good chance they will need EVERY dancer they can get).

thankss so much. well honestly i say i've been dancing since i was two because i live near my dance studio, idk if you would count bouncing around in a tutu for a few years experience, but i am into dancing, yeah.
i don't think grizabella is a good role for me. i researched a lot so i don't know if these are good roles for me - bomballerina(sp?), demeter, jemima, rumpleteazer, etc??
i don't know when, but i think now ct's are allowed to perform it, i think there are now rights. not sure. this particular ct is run by my school kind of so maybe they have the right kind of???? i'm sorry i don't know. i'll bring it up in rehearsal, IF i get in or at least get a part!
i'd tell you where i live..but i'm one of those stalkerphobic people =). not than any of you are stalkers! ugh - you know what i mean!
song suggestions needed for auditions!

Since you have a lot of ballet training, I think you should go for either a major dance part such as Victoria, Rumpleteazer if you're good at any sort of acrobatic maneuvers, or Jemima. All three parts require heavy dancing since they are usually at the front of most dances. Victoria had in the original shows a couple of songs, but now her part is just usually restricted to dancing - her claim to fame is her solo dance early in the show, which is completely ballet. Also needs to be extremely flexible Rumpleteazer as I said is an acrobat but really needs a strong voice to be able to complement the lack of air that will be there with all of her moves. Jemima is often the understudy to Victoria, but needs a really soft and clean voice because she is like the young maiden of the show.
Jemima's actual solos are short but inspirational. I'm not quite sure where to go for that one, but try one of the female solos in Jekyll and Hyde. Rumpleteazer requires something snazzy and upbeat.

thanks, i decided to audition for rumpleteazer. i am more of that kind of character, if you know what i mean. i know someone who will probably get jemima, because she has more of a sweet, innocent voice. and victoria, well i'd be interested but i want to sing also so i don't know if it's the role i'm looking for. i'm thinking of "life of the party"? any suggestions?
