CatFancy Article

Although there is nothing really new per se in this article, the JULY 2006 issue of CAT FANCY (page 18 ) presents "Backstage Pass (The cast of CATS channels the feline form)" by Justin W. Sanders. Featured photo is the US Tour V (First Cast). Lisa Schale, current dance captain, was interviewed for this article.

I scanned the page and placed it HERE because it is about 900Kb in size. ThHe print is skewed a bit because of the scan, but it should be readable. NOTE: You will need to "Zoom" in to read the print.

At a quick glance, looks like third cast - Mario Martinez still on from 2nd cast as Mungojerrie, but with Jesse Factor in as Skimbleshanks.

I think that was the last time Troika updated the press kit *shrug*

Now, to actually read the article. Thank you for sharing, Rumblepurr Smile

Thanx for sharing! I'll have to pick up a hard copy of that next time I'm at the news stand. I want the actual paper for my files.

Rumblepurr, thank you for posting! I really enjoyed reading it!

Thanks for sharing that, Rumblepurr. Smile

I tried to find the interview with Claire Blakely mentioned at the end of the article, but had no luck. Can anyone else find it?

*seethes* Ok, enough of that. She used to spell her name differently.... Blakeley, I believe. I wonder if that's a typo

EDIT: It looks like they're only up to the June issue online, and I believe Rumblepurr said this article is from the July issue? That could be why we can't find the article about Claire.
Rumblepurr

Sorry about that...

I have a subscription to Cat Fancy and we get issues before they hit the newsstands and magazine racks...

*asterix*, my very dear lady... Are you sure about the picture? It appeared to me like Victoria was Shylo and Bomba was Sharon H. and they were the first cast... If I am wrong (and I could very well be...), mea culpa...

Yes, my dear, I am sure about the actors. The make up is difficult to makke out in that photo as to identifying Shylo Smith as Victoria or not, but with as big a crush on Sharon Honeycutt as I have, I assure that is NOT her Bombalurina Wink Aside from not looking like her, that shot feature the approaching-Peg-Bundy styled Bombalurina wig that reached its peak of oddball styling with the next cast (2004 - 2005 season)
That Munkustrap is not Grant Turner (One of the Bo's I believe... Bo Rainey, maybe?) and the Tugger is not Stan Stanley, both have very different faces. Jennyanydots and Alonzo have similar builds to those featured in the first cast photos but it's not the same actors.
Also, that is definitely Jesse Factor and Mario Martinez in the roles I mentionned before (vs. Warren Freeman and Bryce Bermingham), they have incredibly distinctive looks and the 3rd cast promo shots are the only "official" images featuring Jesse in Skimbleshanks costume, so they stand out in my memory because he is my favourite Skimbleshanks to date, a very pretty one at that, and I was very excited when the photos first came out...

Anyways, I did not mean to make a big deal out of it, just clarifying Smile

Just confirming *asterix*'s post. That is not the first cast. The first cast had Tumblebrutus with his arm in that odd position. And instead of Jennyanydots on the first cast picture, Sillabub is there. Here's a pic of the first cast from that pose:

I can't find the CatChannel article either! Sighs...

Given that Rumblepurr is receiving his subscription a little early, it is likely that this article appears in the June issue of Cat Fancy. If that's the case, the supplemental article may not go up online for another week or so.

So... We take a deep breath, we wait a few days... And then if it's not up, we get on their case Twisted Evil
Rumblepurr

Thank you...

Both to *asterix* and MsJ for the correction on the picture... Senior moment for me... After seeing the photo MsJ provided, I can definitely see my error... That and the subtitle under the picture says 2003 - first cast was in 2001... Embarassed

VTWC & Cassandra? As *asterix* said, my subscription gives me an advance on anything in the issues. The website on CatChannel will have to update with the JULY issue as soon as it becomes available. Sorry about that...

Actually, I believe I said that first Wink Sorry, couldn't resist being a pain in the rear (as usual). Asterix, what production is the Bombalurina in your banner from?

You, my dear, are no senior. As such, you need to stop using such a silly bit of self-depreciation Cool

Not a pain in the rear, you were right Smile I did not see the edit to you post, but the three of us should have read up further all the same, as Rumblepurr did also note the issues' month in his original post d'oh! d'oh!

As for my signature, I found her at www.musical-karten-tickets.de, so I'm guessing she's from the German tour, but could be Berlin, as they're also using publicity photos from Hamburg and Stuttgart, and publicity photos do tend to get passed around from production to production - it's harder to tell the difference with the London-esque costume and without knowing the actress.
I generally prefer to use photos that I have scanned in myself in graphics for reasons just like these - in addition to having "permission" (my own Wink) to use the picture, it's easier to know the production and othr stats because I know where the shot came from... Alas. Her expression was so irresistable, though Wink
