CastingThe play next year is going to be FotR. I want to try out. I'm not sure what part I should play. I'm an alto, 5'7'', redhead. I'm considering Yente. I don't think I'm too tall, the averge hight of girls in my school is 5'6''. I'm also good as a comedic role.

Well, the only vocally demanding parts in the show for females are Golde and Hodel. And even they don't have to be "OMG AMAZING!!!".
If you are a good character actor, go for Yente.
And since you are a little taller than everyone else, I think you could stand a good chance at Tzeitel, her being the oldest daughter and all, it'd make sense if she was a bit taller.

Hmm . . . I like the idea though I'm just a decent singer. I don't think I'd make a lead.

Tzeitel dosen't really have to sing well at all.
Her only song is "Matchmaker, Matchmaker", and that's a comedic song, and when I was in this show our Tzeitel was by no means a skilled singer. You can basically BS your way through the whole thing and the audience will think it's hilarious because in the song Tzeitel pretends to be Yente.
And Tzeitel isn't as big a part as you think. She's huge in the first act, but just has a bit in the second act. If anything, Yente does more than her. But if you can do character roles well, go for Yente.

Yente sings "The Rumor"; depending on the actress, she may do it in Sprachsingen à la Rex Harrison, as did Norma Crane and Michele Marsh in the movie (Golde and Hodel respectively).

The problemThey took out tzeitel's solo, and you cant audition 4 yente. (it's mini fiddler) the casting doesnt matter on appearance. Ill try for tzeitel
ps. I discovered a week before the tryouts that i have to sing an octave higher. In the upper register I can't do the head voice thing, or vibrotto. Any advice?

Tzeitel doesnt have a solo :S
And as for the person saying Chava has to be a red head, that is not true! I am currently playing Chava and i have blonde hair. If i was you Tzeital sounds good
