My high school is considereing doing this show but I was wondering what size of a cast this show is. Does it have a large chorus? I remember seeing a version of it which I believe is the R&H version which is what we would be doing but I don't remember much seeing as it was 3 or 4 years ago. Also any info on size of roles and vocal ranges and such would be great.

There are only about 10 lead and supporting roles. The opening song includes many solos for ensemble members and there are two cameo roles. It's a great show if you're in a major role, but the chorus is only really in "The Prince is Giving a Ball" and then in the ball scene.

So this show will work with a very small ensemble? We have somewhere between 15-20 people usually audition. What are the sizes of the roles? Like which ones are leads and others can be handled by the unexperienced? We have about 4 people who make theater the focus of there lives nearly and then about 5 more how care about the show and theater. The others not so much. Also what are the male roles like we have 3 highly jealous guys who need nearly even sized roles or atleast roles that lots can be done with.


Also if anyone has pictures of set or costumes I would love to see them to get a feel for the show on stage. Plus everyone loves to brag and show of their show.

The show is so short... but its sweet in that respect. Honestly I believe that although the prince and Cinderella are the main leads in the show, no one has a significant amount of lines compared to another person. It's a show that is short, beautiful, and cute with a decent amount of singing and dancing for everyone to enjoy.

The shortness of the book isn't really a problem. The real problem is that the book is, for want of a better word, a little "lazy" - particularly in the third act. And there are some inconsistencies that emerge (especially with regard to characterisation) when you start to create the physical staging of the show.

I suppose the szie of the chorus is something that is easily varied. I had a chorus of about 40 when I directed the show in May - but we did split them up into smaller groups. So you were either in "The Prince is Giving a Ball" or "Your Majesties" and the chorus was rotated in dance segements of the Waltz so that there were never more than five or six couples dancing on stage at a time.

I just finished directing this show. Our production, with two 10 minute intermissions ran just over two hours. We had a cast of 18.
The Prince is the largest male role. The King and Herald are good character roles.
Cinderella is obviously the largest female role. Stepmother, stepsisters, the Godmother, and the Queen are the featured female roles.
Our show was very well received and was fun to do. Some pics:

We only had one intermission - we ran Act 1 and Act 2 right through without stopping. But two hours including interval sounds about right.

Cinderella's ball gown, the Prince's outfit, the King's, the Queen's, the Godmother's (seen on the steps in the one pic), and Stepmother (next to the steps in gold) were rented along with the Stepsisters ball gowns and a few others.
