cast recordings

I'm just wondering if there are any websites besides ebay or amazon where I can buy some of the more hard to find cast recordings? Please let it be known that I am talking about buying genuine albums...no trading, no bootlegs, etc.

Anyway, I always seem to see them everywhere when I dont have money, and cant find them when I do. I'm mainly looking for the Australian cast (is there more than one?).

Also, I'm assuming there's still no official video album? Its been almost 10 years and I guess if they were going to release one they would already. I'm not a big fan of the video, but I do like the music.

Any help would be appreciated. Again, no trades, no bootlegs, no freebies. Smile [/i]

No there is no official CD of the video I am afraid.

There is only one normal double cd set of the Australian cast. It's very good, and there is an ace shop in London (but you can buy online) which is very good for the more unusual purchases: www.dresscircle.co.uk

But, ebay has the best price on the AU:

And... since Katrina chewed mine up, I just bought a copy.

I picked up my Aussie cast at Borders, of all places. It was cheaper than the Broadway version, too, at about $25. They wanted $35 for the Bway. Heh. Thank God I picked up the Bway back in jr. high...

I picked up my Canadian POTO there, too. Borders may not be the greatest place to look for CDs as they tend to be overpriced, but for import cast albums they're usually the best deal in town. You have to keep looking though as these things pop up at random.

Wow. Thank you so much. I had forgotten how many there were. So many to keep up with. So are there 2 dutch casts? I'm seeing 1987 and 2006.

I didn't realize how expensive the Japanese one was. My family got it for me for my birthday one year (I think its the 89 cast), and the act 1 cd broke, so now I only have act 2.

I now have all of them on my ipod because I stored my CDs when I moved away (still looking for them).

Also, I was glad to see that the Hungarian one was on CD. I ordered it years back on ebay and when I got it, it was the LP. I guess thats my fault for not paying attention when buying.

One more question. Is the Vienna one highlights only, or full show? Somehow I ended up with what I am pretty sure is Vienna, but not 100% sure. Hamburg maybe?

Sorry for all the questions but I am extremely rusty on all of this, and it seems there are twice as many recordings as there were the last time I was around.

Let's see:
These are mostly released on CD. LPs or MC are noted when relevant.
1981 OLC (2CD)
1982 OBC (2CD)
1983 Vienna (1CD)
1983? Budapest (1CD)
1985 Australia (2CD)
1985 Tokyo (2CDs, live "Original")
1985 Oslo (1MC or 1LP)
1986 Hamburg (2CD, live)
1987 Amsterdam (1CD or 2LP, live IIRC)
1989 Paris (2CD)
1989 Japan (2CD, "Long Run")
1991 Mexico City (1 CD)
2003 Warsaw (1CD)
2007 Dutch Tour (1 cd)

If you're tech savvy enough, you can make your own copy of the Video by ripping the sound track from the DVD and transcoding it to CD.

The msterdam 2LP, Mexico CD, and the Norway MC are difficult to find and the only way that you'll really be able to get ahold of these is by non-traditional means (which, as a moderator I must say, are not allowed on the open forum.) .

My Australian one is the full 2CD set. Did they have just a 1CD version as well?

Typo. Fixed.

They had highlights of the OBC and OLC. Several single/promo versions of the Hamburg version. A Cat-food tie-in promo of the 2007 Dutch version. A Japanese single of memory on LP, an austrian single of memory on LP, and a UK single of Mr. Misto that was released in 1980 on a 45.

I am indeed tech savvy. I'm not that good, and it took all night, but I managed to do it. Only problem now is to merge some of the MP3s together so full songs arent on two different MP3s (example- Naming begins at the end of Jellicle Songs, and I want it to start on a new MP3). Cant seem to find a program to do that, but for now, I am satisfied with the results.

Let it be known that if they decide to release a video CD, I'll buy it. But for now, I am not cheating.

Anyway, thank you everyone for the help. Right now I have:
Broadway
Vienna
Japan 89 (act 2)
Mexico City (official one given to me by some kind soul whose name escapes me)
Cats Video (yay!)
And some strange unofficial recording where Munk sounds like Kermit the Frog

I've got a lot of collecting to do. I have more memorabilia and pictures than recordings, but its now my priority.

It's good to be back. Wink
