Cast it!

Who would you like to see play who in Sound of Music? List just a few of the larger parts, or list your entire dream cast! And here's a twist: they don't have to be people of the stage. Why not throw in a few movie stars here and there! Afterall, Johnny Depp is now playing Sweeny Todd! Have fun!
Salome

Kevin Kline as Max
scarlett Johansen as Elsa

Ooh Salome that is a good pair! ...and I love Scarlett.

Re: Cast it!

I would be very glad if Laura Mchelle Kelly took the part of Maria and either Michael Ball or Philip Quast took the role of Captain von Trapp. Laura Michelle Kelly seems poised for the role of Maria, as she can project both her strong and weak sides. Her singing voice is one that can project itself yet have a bright yet crystal-clear tone. Michael Ball and Philip Quast would be my top picks for Captain von Trapp because they can portray the different sides to his character. Plus, their singing voices are strong, and their range would be comfortable for Edelweiss. I would like people who have the acting and singing ability of the film version and the professional stage productions, and I don't think I would like star power for its own sake. I wonder if Shirley Verrett could essay the role of the Mother Abbess. She has essayed the role of Nettie in Carousel and perhaps she might be in a strong position to sing the part. Some other strong contenders for Mother Abbess would probably include Sarah Brightman and Taewon Yi Kim, the actress who essayed the role of Lady Thiang in the 1990s King and I revival. I really think Taewon Yi Kim might be in a strong position to be Mother Abbess, because she offered a lovely rendition of Something Wonderful that had some kind of a yearning quality. She is able to navigate the high notes of the song. These two qualities might probably lend something to her rendition of Climb Every Mountain, and I would love it if she essayed the role and made the song a little more imploring.

Ohh! I like the Sarah Brightman casting!
Salome

Brightman cannot act to save her life.
JIJane

Johansson is too young for Elsa really but maybe in a few years time she would be an interesting choice.

it never says how young Elsa is in ther script. just that she had a late husband. she is what? 23..and she has a sophisticated look she can pull off say..30.
JIJane

Yes, I guess it would depend on how the director wants to cast it, traditionally Elsa tends to look about mid thirties (also current West End production) but she could be younger if the casting was angled that way - true.

Maria's not that old, and the Captain falls for her too, so they are in the same "neighborhood."
Snow_White

Amy Adams as Maria...

I really think she would be fricken fabulous.
jackissensational

Eh... she's a bit too "cutesy."
Snow_White

Wrong, she's too "cutesy" in Enchanted, as she is playing a Disney Princess...she is an actress...and a fabulous one at that- she could definitely pull it off.
jackissensational

True, she is an actress, but I doubt her talent. Maria is a very demanding role.

Have you seen Charlie Wilson's War? Junebug? Catch me if you can? She's effing amazing.
Snow_White

THANK YOU Very Happy

She is definitely capable of handling the role of Maria. She is absolutely fabulous...

I can see where you're coming from... slightly. She's quite talented.

It's the kind of situation where... you know what's good, but it's not personally good. It can be good, just not you're favorite. So maybe it's that sort of thing... but she just doesn't do much for me. Personally.
