Cartwheels and somersaults

OK, Ive been practicing dance for hours a day lately and its really helpful and ill be doing it for the next 6 months or so along with multiple dance classes on technique so I can get my dance to the level of my singing and acting in preperation to audition for CATS.
But what I need is basicly a tutorial on cartwheels and somersaults if anyone can explain how to do them in detail I would appreciate it since Ive never had to do them. Thanks

Hello!

I personally can't do a cartwheel but I can give you a pointer on doing a sommersault.

Keep your chin tucked to your chest and your back curved. Roll through it. If you flop over you didn't curl your back enough.

My only other advice is to go to a local gym and get a trainer to teach you, because you can get seriously injured trying to do cartwheels and other acrobatics on your own :3

I'd recommend getting someone to teach you first hand, rather than getting pointers on the internet - you could so easily hurt yourself if you're unsure! I say this because some one asked me how to do a cartwheel the other day and I found it really difficult to teach them, even with them there watching. It's definitely one of those things that's easier to pick up when you're a child... perhaps because children are made of rubber???! Wink

But yeah, get a gym instructor, circus trainer, dance teacher... someone like that to show you how. At least they can support you in the right places or whatever while you practice!

My cartwheels are only so-so, and I agree with Little_Nell, you should have someone teach you firsthand. Soumersalts are generally pretty easy. When I was in Cats, though, the only ones who did a lot of acrobatic stuff were Mungo, Rumple, and Mistoffolees. Everyone else was pretty heavy on the dance, but not so much acrobatic stunts. Good luck!

Go to someone who knows gymnastics and have them teach the the propert techniques in person. It would be so hard to try to explain that on in writing.
