Carousel... who were you? :)

Carousel doesn't seem to be a very commonly done show, so I'm just curious: who did YOU play? how was your production? was it fun?? Smile

when I was maybe 11 I was "the Littlest Miss Snow" (that's how I was billed in the program, haha! Smile) and it was a ton of fun. especially Louise and the Snow children's ballet! I felt bad making fun of Louise but we were friends so it was ok Very Happy

now you tell me about your Carousel experience! Smile

What wouldn't I do to play Julie... of course it'll never happen as I'm not an actress, but I can live vicariously through others Very Happy

I've finally got my hands on a copy of "Liliom" and read it about five times over the weekend. Has anyone else read it?

Well, I just finished a run of Carousel, and really enjoyed it. I played the eldest snow daughter and was a featured dancer for the rst of the show (I don't really know why we're called 'featured' but hey) It was a really great experience, my favourite part was the finale with the whole cast singing those gorgeous harmonies. If you want to see pics, there are a few in the 'post a pic of yourself in a role' thread.

I was Mr. Snow. Um...our production was interesting to say the least. I could give you so many reasons why it was off. And I actually thought I was gonna be a romantic lead instead of the comic relief. I turned out to be the comic relief because our Jigger was more skeevy than funny.

I actually am playing Julie Jordan right now. Such a challenging part to play.

methaphor17, how challenging was the dancing in your production? im auditioning for carousel soon and i have basic dance training and i can move but do you think that would be enough?

when i was maybe 9, I was the juggler in the opening... I juggled, spun plates, and other stuff like that. I would love to do it again (with a different part)! Very Happy

It's definitely popular as an amateur show in the UK, although I never seem to hear of it being performed in schools.

I played Louise when I was 15. I wasn't all that great at ballet but was the only young girl they could get their hands on for the part (Julie and Carrie were in their late 40s, Enoch Jr was 23 and the Snow children were someone's little grandkids) so the choreography was kept as simple as possible to accommodate my deficiencies. It was a lovely show though. If I were in it again, I'd love to play Julie.

I was in the chorus because I was too young to audition for a main role (and I couldn't be Louise because I can't dance), but now I'm older I'd love to be Julie or Carrie.

As my signature says, I played Nettie.
I had never acted before, but I had been working my ass off singing soprano in choirs etc. for a few years beforehand. I had a wonderful time. The role had few lines to learn and a couple of brilliant songs, so it was perfect for me. Thanks to Carousel, I've discovered a love for theatre that was hidden in me all along.

Our production was only a small school one, but it worked out surprisingly well. Our Billy was a heartbreakingly beautiful singer and our Jigger brilliantly sneaky Wink
