care to be upset?

~Note not my reviews~
This televised verson of the horror/musical stage play "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" finally makes it to DVD. (Finally, I have a coaster ...)

When I heard about Sweeney Todd, I was thinking about something along the lines of Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Charles Dickens meets Jack The Ripper. I thought wrong. There is no doubt the lyrics are amazingly sharp and the actors are devilishly good, but this DVD is not really a movie; it's a statically filmed version of the 1982 stage play and every single line is delivered in trilling song. This gets really old, really fast.

Pros

* Good lyrics

Cons

* Bo-ring!

regional production review

I'd never seen Sweeney Todd before, or even gotten the full unhappy, bizarre, turgid, pseudo-Wagnerian weight of the plot dumped on my consciousness before. My guess is that, at two-and-a half hours, Sondheim has a real message to deliver, but I'm not sure what; I already knew not to trust judges, or barbers, or fast-food restaurants

Your mission is to give a reasoned reply and not something that boils down to "The reviewers suck!"

uhm you you are referring to the brillaint 1982 dvd with lansbury and hearn..its one of the finest taped versions of a broadway shows put out on the market. the top notch cast...the music the sets, Sweeney Todd is a perfect musical. the only thing wrong with this version is the cutting of the Judge's Mea Culpa.

Indeed, however I did neglect to mention that neither are my reviews. Course right now I am number 11 in line to get the dvd from my public library which has just acquired it.
Salome

just buy it at barnes and noble.

NAAAAAAAAAA that would be too easy

Or keep an eye on eBay...I got my copy there brand new and cheep. I think I payed $10 or so, including shipping. It may be more difficult now, with the movie out (I got mine in October), but check it out. It's well worth the price.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Nick-Ko-Las Enigma has any intention of paying money for it.

If that's the case, just watch it on google videos.

Oh, and I forgot...

That reviewer sucks. Mad

That is all.

Alright, your wrong.

Oh
lol

Well I thought since you're waiting for it at the public library, you were just gonna borrow it.

But still, google videos is a very viable option.

I saw a review of the film that said something a long the lines of...
"While Sweeney Todd isn't one of Stephen Sondheim's best scores..."

WTF?

I will admit that watching a video recording of a musical can get a little boring... but that's not how it was intended to be seen.

And I'm sure that person wasn't a musical theatre person. Why they did the review, I have no idea, but could you imagine me doing a review of like the super bowl or something... "This is the most poorly acted and awfully choreographed musical in history. They keep bumping in to each other. And the costumes..."
