Captain von TrappWhat age should the actor be? We are thinking of doing Sound of Music next year and I want to audition for the part. I am 38 but I can play anyone from 30 to 40.

The real Captain von Trapp was 47 when he married Maria and 55 when the family left Austria, but plenty of actors in their mid to late 30s have played the role. He just needs to seem old enough to be convincing as a father whose oldest child is 16. You should be fine.

Including Christopher Plummer, who was 35 when he played Captain Von Trapp. Julie Andrews was not even 30 yet.
