Candles for Evita

Dear Musicals.Net Posters,

Is it tough to find battery-operated candles for Evita's funeral scene(s), or is that easy? Does anyone usually use real candles? I can't imagine that that would be very safe onstage!

I'm an electric and battery operated candle fanatic, so if I was staging a theatrical production of Evita, I'd utilize battery operated flicker-flame candles for that spooky effect. The combination of class and safety would be "no less than [Evita] deserved".

Thanks in advance for your replies.

You can buy battery powered candles at Michael's Crafts. They're made to have the battery hidden by a wreath or something (it hangs by wires out the bottom of the candle). Just use white tape to cover and connect the battery to the candle. If you can afford flicker flame candles, that's the best, but they're spendy. I see you're in No.Cal. Musson Theatrical has them.

Most theaters will not allow open flame on stage without a dead man extinguisher, and a fire marshal on-site. That's too much for most budgets.
