Can anyone help me?Hi everyone,
I have an audition for Sarah in Guys and Dolls in January and I really am desperate to get the role, as I've never had a lead in a musical and I would like the experience. Anyway I have a couple of queries;
* Have I got a good chance of getting this role? I'm 21 years old, but look about 18/19, have quite a good singing voice (soprano), fair acting skills, particular when doing comedic roles and a very poor dancer. The cast has a wide age range (about 21-60).
* Is it a heavy dance part?
* How old should the character be?
(P.S. I posted a similart thing on the Guys and Dolls board, but didn't get many replies).
Thanks in advance, guys.

Sarah is kind of the straight woman in this show. She's funny, but it's her seriousness that makes it so.
As I recall, she has very little dancing to do. In the Havana club scene, she dances with Sky a little but it soon turns into a fight.
You have the right vocal range and age, I think. Sarah should be a young, enthusiastic woman.
I really like the way she is portrayed in the film version with Jean Simmons playing the role. Try and find that. It will help a lot!

Vocal and age wise, you should be perfect for the role, unless for some reason the community production decides to go older then the age range for Sarah, which I've seen happen.
Also, your comedic skills shall come in handy during the Havana scene as she gets drunk and also during If I Were A Bell.
Sarah doesn't do much dancing at all, as far as I remember, but everything is at your choreographer's own discretion. Our Sarah was a dancer, so she did a little more during the Havana scene (the dance which turns into a fight between Sarah and another girl who dances with Sky), but this could also be very minimalistic.
Good luck.
