Callback!

OK, so I have just recieved my first callback. Ever.

I don't know which show it is for... (auditioning for two atm) but I know it will be a cold read.
Is there any way to prepare for this??
Haha the director told me its between me and 3 other girls...

I am so incredibly excited...

Well done! I just got my first callback ever a couple of days ago.. *dances with you in excitement!*

What show is it for? Mine is for Hope in Anything Goes, apparently between me and one other girl.

About how to prepare.. don't have a clue? Be confident - the director actually told me that he wanted me to sing twice as loud and up my expression.. so I didn't have to think for myself.

False alarm
Here I was so excited because I though I might be getting called back for Rizzo.

Nope, not even a singing role. Lame old Patty Simcox, between me and 3 other girls.

I feel like I've been slapped. Repeatedly.

whoa, whoa, whoa!

first of all, congratulations on the callback, that's great! but...what happened to the excitement you had at first?!

let me just tell you a few things:

1) just because you didn't get called back for a certain part doesn't mean you won't get that part.

2) there are any number of reasons you may not have gotten a call back for the role of rizzo - they might be going for a certain look that you don't have, you might be too old/young, or too tall/short. so many people think they get turned down because they aren't good enough, but they're oh so wrong. they just aren't right for the part and/or don't blend well with the other people who are being considered.

3) NEVER be ashamed of a small part. the best actresses make a small part DAZZLE. they make the best of the situation, and shine with the part they were given. like they say: there are no small parts. only small actors.

4) this is your first callback. don't expect too much right away. no one jumps right into leads. it takes a lot of time and hard, hard work to get leads. nobody starts out as a lead, i can tell you that right now. calm down and keep working hard at acting, and one day, you'll be up there, centerstage, belting your heart out!

Patty Simcox could be the most thrillingly geeky squeaky role of your life! Go for it! A choreographer I worked with once auditioned for Grease and got Patty - she made it the best damn cameo in the show!

Go for it!

I keep forgetting this director only puts hs favorites, who cant really sing, or his relatives (kids, wife, etc.) who can't really do anything, into the big roles. Everyone told me I had an amazing audition (everyone who heard) and so I got my hopes up.

He told us at the callbacks that Patty was the only role not cast.

I've been doing theatre in this town for nearly 7 years, and he approached me and asked me to audition for his shows after seeing me in another show. Since then I haven't had a decent role and that was almost 4 years ago. I want to do this professionally and if I can't even get a half-decent role in a small-town musical how can I even hope for an Ensemble part in the big stuff?

Edit: Just to clarify, I did go to the callback and I did give it my all, I am just very disappointed and slightly insulted because I am a singer, not an actor and from what I understand, Patty is a non-singing role. And I saved my upset-ness for when I was home, out of sight in my basement.

Further Edit: If I do, by some miracle, get a decent part then I will bow down to the MdN crew, but miracles never happen to me.

*sits down with you with a tub of chocolate ice cream, offers you some, then watches you trying to pout when you're shoving a spoonful of of ice cream in your mouth. giggles*

Now don't go killing yourself over this callback thing. I'm sure you'll live. And if you don't get the bigger role youre looking for, you'll find a bigger, better show to star in. I hope you like chocolate ice cream... lol and if you don't , don't *virtually* choke on it. lol

Good Luck!!

let's not go there.

jealousy in the theatre is a PAIN in the ASS. for everyone. it'll only make the show harder on you, and other people as well.

and 'favorites' may just mean that he knows what they can do, so he casts them because he has known them for a while and knows they can do the part justice.

listen...this is your first show. in my first 2 shows, i was ensemble. the next show, i was jack's mother. there was a very small group of people to choose from, though.

the show after that was a charity show, and the roles were first come first serve, so i ended up getting the lead, Beth, in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!

the show after that? ensemble. i was so pissed off and so disappointed...i cried over it.

i thought i had completely blown it at the callbacks and i was being so hard on myself. then i started telling myself that they were just choosing their favorites instead of me. i thought that they had no idea what talent i had in singing and acting.

but i quickly learned that i was just being stupid. the directors? they always choose me to lead warm-ups, they gave me every little non-speaking role that they could, and i've even heard some of them brag about me.

the thing was? i wasn't right for any of the roles. i really wasn't...i can admit that now. i seriously think they made a good choice by not giving me the role i wanted, Lucy in YAGMCB, because the girl they DID choose did brilliantly and i know inside that i would not have done as well.

please don't be so disappointed. acting is a HELL HOLE. it's just rejection after rejection. but after 1000 no's, there is a glimmer of a yes. just keep fighting, and i know someday you'll be up there, centerstage, spotlight on you, singing your heart out for all the audience to adore.

just don't give up, and don't get down on yourself. Very Happy
