Bye Bye Birdie--ROSIE!!!

Okay, here's the deal. For the past few years I've been involved in several youth productions of various musicals all with the same company. But this year, my beloved director isn't producing a show this year because she wants spend time with her new baby girl. Not that I have any problem with that (she's adorable), but it's my senior year and quite possibly the last musical I'll have a chance to be in before I go to college.

So anyway--the new director. Yeah, she's kind of been involved in shows I've been in before (her son always auditions, but usually doesn't get a lead role), and I guess she's heard me sing, but I'm still really nervous that because she's not my old director, she won't know me as well as somebody else might.

What's the point to my rant? Well, I need an audition song. A Broadway auditon song. And I need it fast. I'm an alto, with a range of practically anything down low to about a high C if I belt (which I LOVE to do), but I'm finding it impossible to get a great song that will express both myself and the character I'm auditioning for. Yep, I'm going out for Rosie, and after listening to her songs for about three weeks straight, I'm confident I can hit all of her notes and assume her strong/sweet "lady in charge" persona. Problem is, I just want everyone else to see it too.

Past audition songs-
Don't Cry for Me, Argentina--Evita
Hey, Big Spender--Sweet Charity
Adelaide's Lament--Guys and Dolls (Much to my lament, this is the song I would have used for my Rosie audition. If only I had known we would be doing BBB in the future... d'oh! lol)

I want to wow them. Not just the casting team--everyone (they're open auditions). Maybe it's corny, but it's my senior year--and I want to make it unforgettable.

Please help!!! THANKS!!!

Recent roles: (all youth shows)
Miss Hannigan- Annie (lead)
The Witch- Into the Woods (lead)
Miss Watson- Big! the musical (supporting)

Try "Some People" from Gypsy.

I played Rosie a couple years ago, and I used that for my audition song. It worked really well to portray the whole "lady in charge" persona you were talking about.
dwarves r very upsetting

I know you said that you already have auditioned with Adelaide Lament. Was it for your new director? If not, there is nothing wrong with using an audition song again. Especially if you know you sing it well.

There are lots of other suggestions if you search through the Bye, Bye Birdie threads. Here are some others

'I'm not at all in love' Pajama Game
'America' West Side Story
'Whatever Lola Wants' Damn Yankee.

Good Luck!

I love the suggestion of "So Long Dearie" from Hello Dolly.
I also played Rosie a few years ago. One thing I remember about her, aside from being in charge, is that she is spunky and clever. No matter how many times Mae puts her down and Albert puts her off, she comes back stronger.
