Broadway Bound: PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT

Playbill has run an article saying that Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is headed for Broadway:

Kenneth Jones wrote:
The musical... has a book by Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott, with direction by Simon Phillips.... Music supervisor is Stephen "Spud" Murphy.... Priscilla, Queen of the Desert tells "the story of a glamorous Sydney-based performing trio: Tick, Bernadette and Felicia. Traveling across Australia in a battered old bus (nicknamed Priscilla), the three agree to take their show to the middle of the outback. In a heart-warming, uplifting adventure, these three fish out of water, searching for love and friendship, end up finding more than they could ever have dreamed. Priscilla features a dazzling array of spectacular and colorful costumes and a score of dance-floor classics, including: 'I Will Survive,' 'Don't Leave Me This Way,' 'Finally,' 'I Love The Nightlife,' 'Color My World' and 'Shake Your Groove Thing,' all brought to life by the big sound of the live Priscilla band."

The article has a picture of the Australian production:

I know many people who've seen it in London and loved it. and the article says it was popular in Oz too. I wonder if it will catch on in North America too.

Hooray

Saw this three times during its Australian run and love it. Unlike a lot of the 'jukebox' shows (especially the ones to come out of Australia recently) all of the songs have been beautifully woven into the story, and the gorgeous arrangements by Spud Murphy reflect this.

I was also really impressed that they kept workshopping and adjusting the show as it went. The show I saw in Sydney was very different to the show I saw in Melbourne. Again, not something that happens in Australian shows all that much, because we just don't have the audiences and resources to do sufficient tryouts.

I love this show and think that it deserves the success it appears to be having overseas!

Video Clips

Two performances from the London cast: "Colour My World" and "I Will Survive", which has one of my favourite Pop Idol contestants - Zoë Birkett - on lead vocal! Jason Donovan is in the company too.

Never saw the stage show, but the movie is great. I assume the show would be just as much fun.

Isnt the London production an RUG or something? I think I remembered reading a backstage info on the girl who where responcible for wigs and make up or somthing like that. Interesting story anyway.
