Broadway Audition Question

Hiiii, I am new to this forum and had a question for the experts out there. I am a voice student and have been in high school plays but nothing else. Is it crazy to go to a Broadway audition as a newbie? There is an audition I would like to go to but I worry that I would be out of my league or embarassed. Thanks.

All I can tell you is that you do go to a broadway audition do your best...I would honestly tell you to go for community theaters before trying anything major.

It's hard enough to be a member of equity who has done 3 broadway shows to get a part, much less then someone straight out of high school doing only high school shows. So be sure to not let everything ride on this one audition.

I agree with missnewbooty a little. Going to auditions you can handle is an important part of gaining confidence and not getting so depressed that you throw in the towel prematurely! I say go to the audition, but with the knowledge that it will be a learning experience. And OF COURSE go to community theater auditions AND professional off-broadway and off-off braodway auditions. Go to every audition you can (auditioning is a skill in and of itsself!) and eventually you'll be ready to kick ass at those broadway auditions.

This is perfect advice!!! I went to my first bway audition at age 16. It was a learnign experience and a blast. Liek they both noted just go in their for the experience, not expecting to get it. But hey you never know!

^ Agreed. In fact, I'm going to a cattle call this weekend for the audition practice! Another thing to expect is to be there for a while. Bring stuff to keep you occupied; like music or reading. No sense waiting around for hours being nervous. And like everyone else has said, expect nothing but a "learning experience" out of it.

When you're first starting out, going to every audition is a wonderful idea. Just make sure that you have done your homework and that you have all of your materials "audition ready"...otherwise, it's a waste of everyone's time...

By "audition-ready" I mean: Sing songs that you know VERY well, have the cuts marked CLEARLY in your audition binder, have your music in order, have a professional-looking resume and headshot, do monologues that you've practiced a TON in front of friends/family/teachers...

Thanks to all who responded! I'm not sure quite what I will do- it is an EPA audition for a show, but I have never auditioned for a Broadway show. If it wasn't for the fact that I loved the show I wouldn't consider it but I have some free time and thought, why not? I appreciate all the advice!
