Brazil recives "Cats" in August

And finnally Brazil will be able to see up-closely one of the greatests musicals ever on its original language!

CIE Brasil set a deal last week with "Cats USA" producers to bring the show to Brazil for the first time. They've already been confirmed, and will happen in August.

Since the show will be with the North-American cast, there will be subtitles.

There won't be too many presentations, so tickets will be expensive and very hard to get. Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo are the cities where the shows will happen.

Ugh, that doesn't sound too good.. but I just can't miss it, no way! Shocked

I haven't heard anything about that. Will Troika actually go that far South? Canada and Hawaii are one thing, but Brazil? Well if they do go they will have a pretty tight schedule switching time zones, but many of them are seasoned travelers by now. They'll be all right.

Ms. J any news one this?
Pounce

I think they've been travelling light lately so a trip to Brazil is doable. When they packed up in Atlanta, I counted 3 trailers while for Wicked I counted 9. I'd have liked to have seen CATS when it went first went on tour. I'm guessing it was as big a production as any.

I hope the Tour has a new and slender Misto. I'm sorry but the Misto I saw recently was way too heavy set to fit the character and his leaps barely got off the stage. Laughing
Drumdraper

The current Misto may not be as slender as other ones, but he knows how to play the character and he can dance beautifully.

Maybe we are talking about a different Misto because not as slender doesn't describe him. He's not slender at all. It must have been difficult fitting him in his costume. He can do the routine but he's not graceful.

Actually, I've heard rumors here and there. I'm thinking that it is the Troika Tour. I just haven't had a chance to research it further for definate confirmation. One of the new cast members said that she would try to send me a schedule once she gets one after they start rehearsals. I'll let you know if I get it. I know cast members can get busy and forget sometimes so I'm not going to guarantee it.

Troika's tour of Starlight Express was scheduled to go to Japan, so I don't think Brazil is too much of a long trip for them to schedule.

How embarrassing for them would that have been? After the last StEx Japan tour, to take the US tour to the same people. I don't think they'd have got the same reception!
TheBoogie

Sooo sorry to ask this, but what would the "Troika Tour" be? hauahaa
I'm really not into what's up with Cats arround the world these days...

Question Laughing Embarassed
Drumdraper

Troika Tour is the current producer/entertainment company that holds the rights till 2007 for Cats to tour in the US, Canada, and now Brazil. They're the fifth US Tour and many people find that they have cheaped out with many of the productions, epescially Cats and Starlight Express.

With Cats they have changed the original set to blow up prop pieces, which aren't that bad. They have chopped up the running time of the musical to be the shortest it can be and I've heard rumors they wanted to save money on the costumes and wigs. For the wigs I heard they wanted to use fake fur or some other material, but yak hair is the only durable material.

Also Belle said the cherographer wasn't the best one either. Starlight Express in Japan with the current tour...that will just make the Japanese laugh at how musicals are treated over here when the wrong company gets the rights. I don't think there has been an US tour for Starlight Express since the early 2000s.

As for the current Misto, I love his version and maybe because I'm not a dancer I see him as graceful, but to me he was.

O-O.................I hope whoever gets the rights next wont be so cheap.....*prays*

Amen.

Shocked

Oh.. I can't belive we're gonna have a cheap version of Cats here in Brazil.....

I really think it stinks that an american entertainment group, which only by being american holds credibility of quality and trust, can turn one of the most traditional London and Broadway musicals into almost (taking it to the extreme) high school play. Evil or Very Mad

I'm (we're) gonna be very disapointioned if that happens... Almost no world-wild famous plays come over here, and when come they are cheapy????????????
I swear to GOD....
If it is as cheap as it sounded on what you guys said, I'm SOO gonna request a refound, couse the price of the tickets is rediculously expensive for just junk play.

The current production of The Phantom and the past ones (Les Miserables, Chicago, etc.) we have/have had here have made Brazillians quite hard to play fool at......

But okay.. lets see....

Don't worry, it will be far better than a high school play. Laughing But over the years they have been cutting corners presumably to keep the show profitable. I saw it last February and still enjoyed it. Saw it twice, buying additional tickets after seeing it earlier. Wink But I would like to see it as it was intended to be. Confused
Drumdraper

Sorry if I scared you! But you really should go see it. The actors are great and even if the set is lacking, the feeling is still there. Trust me, it's not like a high school production.
Cassandra

Don't worry. If you've never seen a live professional production of Cats before, you will be pleased with this one. Most people seeing it for the first time can't tell that anything has changed. It's still a very good production, considering, and definitely not like a high school or community theatre production.

We're only complaining because we've seen what the show has looked like in the past, and because we're such rabid fans, we know when they change something as little as a wig style or start using a blow up set.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure you will love the production once it gets there. I know the cast is very excited about going to Brazil. If nothing else, the cast will make it very enjoyable to watch. Smile
TheBoogie

Okay.. Now I've calmed down! heheh

I'm going to see it, that's sure... I'm convinced it is gonna be a good show. heheh

I just didn't expect a production of Cats coming all the way down to Brazil to be "not that good".. But I forgot you guys have watched the show since you were kids and "not being that good" for you must look excelent for someone who's never seen it before, like me.

Thanks guys.
Now I'm going to the mall to buy my tickets! First line!!! \o/
