Books That Are MusicalsI'm currently in a College Bound Literature class for school. Part of our class is to pick books to read to do different literary things on. I would like to read books that have been used to create musicals. I already know there's a book for Ragtime and Les Miserables. Does anyone know of any others? Thanks!

no. barry would have bene too young back then. it starred the great Fritz Weaver as Holmes, Peter Sallis (Wallace and Gr\omit,Last of the summer wine) as Watson, Inga Swenson (Benson,100 in the shade) as Irene. in the chorus was a very young christopher walken and a very young tommy tune.its a wonderful show..great score and direction by Hal Prince.

Neither is Cats for that matter. It may be from an anthology, but I'd say that's a book in the say way Pygmalion and Taming of the Shrew are in that they are printed and bound, but only for convenience.

I'm aware they're plays, but plays are often read in literature classes, especially Shakespeare. If plays are strictly forbidden, then she can freely discount those suggestions. And I know I'm tempting fate by writing an explanation, but I feel daring tonight.

the trouble is ...if you list plays with books you cover 95 percent of all musical theatre.

I know I don't post a ton on here but I just wanted to clarify that I was a guy and not a girl.
I don't think plays will work for this assignment but I haven't asked yet.

Oh, bugger, I'm so sorry. Being female myself, it's kind of a reflexive thing to call anyone I've not seen "she." Many apologies.
