book facts, for reference

I just re-read the book (yesterday) and some quick reference facts for possible differences between book and show. Also references for comparing to movie versions.

-Mary's parents die of Cholera. We don't know their names except Captian and Mrs. Lennox.
-Mr. Craven's wife Lillias was sister to Captian Lennox, thus the Uncle relationship to Mary.
-Mary is 10, Colin is 10, Dickon is 12, and Martha is "a young girl" (though older than Dickon)
-Dr. Craven is Mr. Craven's cousin. I don't think we know his first name.
-Mr. Pitcher is personal attendant to Mr. Craven
-Mary finds the key in an overturned pile of dirt (prepared for transplanting a shrub) which the robin drew her attention to.
-the wind clears the ivy from the door long enough for her to see the handle
-Lillias is described by Ben Weatherstaff and Mrs. Sowerby as a "young, laughing thing" with happy eyes. Everyone notices the resemblance between Colin and his mothers eyes, except his aren't happy until later
-Much emphasis is placed on "magic" (although Mrs. Sowerby calls it the "Big Good Thing" or something like that, referring to God): Colin decides that his feeling better in the garden is due to Magic and decides he will conduct scientific experiments on magic
-Colin decides he will be an athlete someday, and tells his father this when he comes home and sees him in the garden
-Mrs. Sowerby makes the children currant buns and sends milk and butter with them when they play in the garden, and Mary and Colin pay her back for the cost. this is so they can still play and not have to go in for lunch, and also not to rouse any suspicions about their increased appetite (which had started to happen already). the also build a fire in the place where Mary first met Dickon (edge of woods) and roast potatoes and eggs over the fire.
-Dickon's 'creatures': Captain(fox), Soot (raven), Jump (pony), Nut and Shell (squirels) and also a lamb (no name that I remember) and occasional rabbits
- Mary's hair is blonde, Dickon's is auburn, and Colin's is brown.

hope that was informational/interesting/useful to anyone.

If I remember correctly, Lily and Colin's eyes were actually grey too. I'll see if I can find the quote that says that.
Brigantine

Correct. Large and grey.

I suppose "She has her eyes, she has my Lily's large grey eyes!" didn't have the same ring to it as She has my Lily's hazel eyes!"
