Bombalurina Doll on Ebay

On my daily ebay search I found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/OOAK-Barbie-stars-in-CATS-The-Musical_W0QQitemZ5656109021QQcategoryZ84627QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The hair leaves a little to be desired as it could be styled a bit more into a Cats wig shape, but Wes jenkins did some really nice work on the unitard and the warmers are cute.

The costumes on his website are beautiful and he has some pictures of other dolls he made:

There's a Bombalurina costume too a quarter of the way down the page on the right. The unitard is a brillant shade of red, which I love, but the tail is made of a shiny tinsel boa and the wig is made of feathers. Wes did an awesome job making the feathers look decent, but feathers are feathers...

Nice Bombalurina costume. Don't like the feathers... I just don't like feathers on anything but Griddlebone, but the wig is neat all the same. It would be great for some sort of fairy costume or something.

Heh... feathers. Mighty interesting.

Hey! That's my area code there... The guy lives right across the river from me. That's pretty cool. OOOOHHH no wonder. He went to New Albany. Those kids rock. They're AWESOME. There was going to be a movie about them. They've got an awesome theatre department... I go to school with two kids that went there.
Roller Boy

personally I LOVE his renditions of the Beauty and the Beast, and Into the woods. The silly Girl is probably my favorite.

HEY GUYS!

Yah, this is weird, but here I am...Wes Jenkins...making a reply to a string of messages about my work. But I thought some further explanation of my work was in order. The Cats doll on ebay was a quickie project at best. I don't like the hair at all, but I don't hate myself enough to reroot an entire doll's head. As far as the CATS costume on my website, I made it to be a Halloween costume for my 15 year old sister. She is the one seen wearing it. The tail is a knitted tube of fuzzy yarn. The wig was made using a shabby black costume wig that I cut really short and then stitched rows of orange and platinum hair into. I resorted to using feathers in an effort to get highly defined stripes of color on either side of the face. The use of feather's on her shoulders came straight from the real costumes which employed very expensive dyed ostrich feathers to puff up the shoulders. To get the deep coloration on the unitard (which I made myself, not store bought) I painted it with watered down acrylic paint. Several coats and many hours later, a brillaint shade of red-orange can be achieved.
Thanks for all your interest in my work. I love to read uncensored critisicm. It gives me a better sense of what my audience sees.

Welcome to the forum, Wes! I'm totally inspired to go find some old Barbies now...

Nice work, but I've not heard of actual feathers being used on genuine production costumes- the washing would be hell and a half! Most of us fan costumers use either frayed yarn, or frayed fabrics, or a combination of the two.

I can't guarantee the validity of the ostrich feather info, but I'm pretty sure I came across that info when I was researching the costumes several months ago. I am no CATS expert, so you're probably more knowledgable about those things. But since I used the feathers in the wig, it made sense to use them on the unitard, which can't be cleaned anyway.
