bloopersAnyone have stories to share when you guys did Sweeney? |

I saw a high school performance of "Sweeney Todd" and during the Judge's Johanna the guy was trying to take his shirt off but it and his mic got all caught up and it was just a big mess. But it was rather 'cute', lol. |

whats your opinion on that song? |

When singing a little priest,my knife was nowhere to be seen so we just had to throw our hands in the air and hope the crowd didn`t care. |

It makes me feel uncomfortable.
I love it. |

I've never been in Sweeney (quite sadly), but I've seen it twice and have never noticed any bloopers.
On the note of Judge's Johanna: of the two times I've seen Sweeney done only one of the companies had the number in the show. When it was done I liked it. It makes the Judge a bigger character and gives him some more great acting opportunities. |

I have quite several actually in my production, all the basic like lines messed up, missed cues, and this one story where I was to have a cane(I was Beadle) and during Anthony's Johanna in the speaking part, I had to find a way to get Anthony serious with me because I couldn't kill the bird(I know I hated it too but my director wouldn't let me!) and so I was moving my cane to his face and next thing I knew the cage broke! so after that the cane was gone and was never used again! I say good reidice! |

Did Sweeney in high school, well...there were many many bloopers. Two of my favorites: 1) Our Beadle was allowed to kill the bird, only one night the bird fell off it's perch in the middle of Johanna, so killing it was a tad redundant. 2) The Sweeney got a tad overzealous in the final scene and threw Mrs. Lovett further than usual into the oven dislodging the door. This left him with the interesting acting task of reattaching it without looking ridiculous. It did. |

I directed the show this fall... I think the biggest worry of the whole show was the chair... at some point in the rehearsal process one of its wheels dislodged itself in the leg, and as we continued to use the chair it gradually wiggled around and weakened the wood it was in... so, one night at rehearsal, Sweeney goes to dump a body, turns the chair, and *snap!* the leg splits. We had to use wheels rather than a stationary swivel because of space issues.
We repaired it, and two nights later, again... this time the leg's totally split out the side, and we open in 3 days. Long story short, we basically rebuild the bottom of the chair, make it beefier and such, and we pray. Happy to say that the chair made it through every performance! As for performance bloopers, I can proudly say that there were no major ones... and the minor ones, I'm keeping to myself, because I'm very proud of my cast and would never call them out on a public forum over a missed lyric or something Some photos here: http://www.gardnerarts.com/sweeneytodd.html |

The one time I saw it live I do remember a couple things that happened.
- During "By The Sea" Mrs Lovett slipped and landed on her left knee. Hard. She was phenominal though, there was no variation in her singing when she fell. - Not a blooper, per se... The beadle ended up stealing a bottle of Pirelli's Elixir. |
