Blood BrothersHey guys,
My current MD has asked me to try out for this show. I know a little of it, but can't seem to find a whole lot of info on it; particularily around this forum.
I'm assuming the MD wants me to try out for Linda, becuase I have a pretty versatile look; particularily with regards to age. Anyway, from the info I do know about it, it seems like a really great show. Anyone caring to add thier thoughts, information about the show, please do so here!

Linda is a great part in the show. Really worth it. I don't know anything about your skills but for the duration of the run, are you comfortable with being devastated at the end of the show EVERY night yet able to perform and also able to continue your normal non-theatre life? It's a serious consideration if you wanna act it to the best of your abilities.
I recommend the 1988 London Cast Kiki Dee recording. I know Salome likes the Clarke/Cassidy recording but it doesn't *quite* cut it for me. I'd also recommend listening to the 1995 London Cast album mainly to avoid the mistakes by Stephanie Lawrence with her forced Liverpudlian accent.

Hmm. now I'm intruiged. Unfortunately I haven't seen the show and I don't know much about it. I know its a sad show, but really, devastated?
It sounds like its a pretty great acting role from what you're saying, and acting is my strongest threat, so I am interested now...
I've tried downloading/listening to clips of the music, and it doesn't appear that she sings much/if at all. I don't need a singing role or anything like that, but I would like to know what skills are important for the character.
You sound like a fan of the show, perhaps you can enlighten me a little more...?

You've just seen your husband and the man you've been having an affair with, both your best friends from childhood, whom you've grown up with get shot dead in front of you at the end of the show. Yeah, you're pretty devastated.

In terms of skills, you'll need to act growing up from the age of 8 to around 24(ish) convincingly. You'll need to be able to perform a convincing Liverpudlian accent. You're in love with both of these guys, you have been all your life.
Linda does not to my memory have any solo songs. She sings a lot of important lines throughout the show in numbers with other cast members. She has a great sense of humour and is genuinely flattered by the attention from Mickey and Eddie and when Eddie's gone off to University, she gets closer to Mickey and ends up as his wife.
Mickey gets into trouble with the police and goes to prison leaving her holding the baby. When he's released, he suffers severe depression and Eddie is back in town in a position of power on the local council and she remembers the good times they spent and falls into having an affair with him.
You sound like a fan of the show, perhaps you can enlighten me a little more...? |
Any good?

Thanks GayBoy!
This is helpful for sure. It sounds like a really great story. I get what your saying about the emotional scene, but I think I can handle it!
And I definitely think I can pull off 8 convincingly; I am 25 but always get cast in younger roles; I've been told I have a very versatile look and always get cast when directors are looking for honest innocence/vulnerability.
Thanks for the info— think I'll give it a go!

Blood Brothers is an amazing show! We're using it for our competition show so we had to cut all the music and a lot of the scenes in order to make it under 40 minutes but it's still great. This is really a devestating show because everything goes wrong for all the people. I can't wait for this show to audition Jan 8th.
