Blood Brothers

I loved it Very Happy What did everyone else think of it?
B3TA07

You're a few years late, but I really like it too.
Jordan

I saw this just a couple of weeks ago with Marc and I loved it again. Brilliant story, well told. I did post asking if anyone could supply a current cast list cos we didn't buy a program but nobody responded Silenced

I saw it with her too. Is she the one on the games at the minute?
rockyrocks666

no, thats another nolan sister... theyre everywhere! lol
i saw her aswell, she was good, but the narrator was awful.
i agree, its a fab show, it doesnt try to win you over with big sets and special effects. it is what it is and it really works.
liza_minelli

Yeah I love it because it's not all danc-ey or big, its a genuinely great storyline and its funny and tragic. I cried at the end Sad But it got a standing ovation, so I was happy Very Happy
rockyrocks666

yeah, and the acting is really good. most musicals you can get away with second rate acting if the singing is good, but ive seen it three times now and the acting has always been top notch.
Jordan

I think I've always cried at the end of Blood Brothers. Willy Russell's writing is excellent. Admittedly there's not much new in the storyline but he's put it together so well.
rockyrocks666

too true. im not a crying person, but blood brothers usually does it for me.
All_For_Laura

This is truly the type of show that hits home and is emotionally racketing and really touches people. The music is not Sondheim or Lloyd Weber and is sometimes so-so, but overall I think its great.
vexation

I did this play for my GCSE and i saw it again on Tuesday, my drama teacher always made us do Willy Russell plays so I've grown quite attached to him.
I think I prefered it the first time. There was definately something weird about the narrator. The narrator one of the characters with the most interesting lines and most of the time you couldn't tell what he was saying.
It's not really a song driven show you tell he is more of a playwrite but its still one of the best things i've seen.
badbananahabit

I loved the show when I went to see it in Edinburgh in October.
Yup, it did bring tears to my eyes at the end. And was genuinely hilarious in other parts.
little_ashlie

Blood Brothers is one of the best shows I've seen. The cast was great (especially Lindsay Matthews as Linda), the music was great, the acting was great, it was all just amazing! It got a standing ovation, and they came on for curtain calls like 6 times! Yup, Blood Brothers = Mr. Green
rockyrocks666

Linda is always amazing when i see the show... its just a fab part!!! Mr. Green
rockyrocks666

cool... where did u get that from?
Salome

the international cast recording is by far the best. Petula CLarke is perfection..the cassidy brothers are amazing and author Wily Russell is unbeatable as the narrator.

I'd really like to see a version with the whole Cassidy family though..wouldnt it be interesting? Shirley Jones, Sean and David and Patrick narrating?
Claire2141

I'm hopefully going to see it again soon, I only really go for the last 5 minutes...'Tell Me it's Not True'. Everytime I see it with Mrs Johnston putting Eddie and Mickey's hands together and everyone singing...gets me everytime.

And it's the cheapest one to see too. Willy Russel always said that he may have not written the best musical but he'd scripted the best last 5 minutes.
London01

This is one of the best.
Always worth a tear at the end.
....tell me its not true....
I like the first recording with Kiki Dee best.

Did that come before the Barbara Dickson recording then? I'm not being funny, just curious cos obviously Barbara Dickson originated the role.

I like the Kiki Dee version best out of the English language versions.
London01

You are correct (my mistake).
Barbara Dickson did the first London recording back in 1983 and Kiki Dee recorded the revival in 1988.
.....must be the heat... Wink
BroadwayBaby0202

Unfortunately, I never saw it Sad but I love Kerry Butler so I wish I had! I heard it was really good.
broadwayprincess

love the show! one of the best! cry at the end everytime! and i absolutely adore the song 'tell me it's not true' i want it played at my funeral!...is that really sad?? <3

my dad saw the cassidy brothers in blood brothers... shaun and david i mean. he said they were amazing doing the parts.

Went to see it in december with drama Mr. Green Applause fantastic!!

Anthony Costa played Mickey...and for a boyband pop star he played the part pretty well. Yet sometimes in singing and when he was talking, you couldn't tell what he was saying. That could have been because of the scouse accent but he did play it well.

Maureen Nolan was fantastic too Very Happy Very good at it.

My mate was in love and still in love with the narrator, she just loves his character.

Haha also when mickey is about to kiss linda, and it doesn't happen my mate said really loudly "Oh I would" and everyone heard her and anthony nearly burst out laughing!!

Also we gave it a standing ovation and these people were like "why are you standing up?" haha and we all got thumbs up and smiles from the cast.

it was fantastic! Recommend it to anyone! Mr. Green
Jordan

I specifically *didn't* go because Antony Costa was in the cast. I was looking for something really good to go and see and was all set for Blood Brothers and was then "OH NO! NO WAY!" and didn't go. Forget what I saw instead, either Les Mis or Phantom.
Milleh

He was actually pretty good. Alot of people expected the worst of him but he did actually do really well for coming from a boy band as alot of people perceive them to not be very good.

But everyone to their own I suppose
music is my life!!!

i'm singing tell me it's not true with some friends in a concert and i think the music is fantastic! Very Happy
what other shows are by this composer?
Salome

Actually to my Knowledge its Willy Russell's only Musical.

He is best known for his plays

Educating Rita (the film version got Michael Caine and Oscar nod)
and
Shirley Valentine

Russell was born and raised in Liverpool so all his shows have a very authentic feel.
music is my life!!!

cool! i'll check them out!

thanks!
