Blocking ideas for Kiss Me

My friend and I are taking the song "Kiss Me" to a competition in early January.

We've got the song down perfect vocally, we just need ideas on possible blocking/interpretations?

Like, do it sweet and innocently and lovey, or over the top, what?
Remember it won't be part of a show, it's just an individual piece that is meant to entertain and display our talents.

Any input would be great!

Now I'm no expert, but I think Johanna should be over-the-top and hysterical, as that is her mood during that scene , whereas Antony is calming her down, so play it over-the-top with a little chouch of lovey-dovey on Antony's part.

I hope this helps Mr. Green

I agree Joanna should be hysterical, I'm playing around with levels... I don't wanna pull attention from Anhtony because there are lines that he says behind mine that are just really funny. I want the audience to hear them so I have to be sure to sort of give him ripples of lower levels of hysteria so he can be the focus when he says certain lines.

Anyone?

I'd recommend looking at Kiss Me from the Lansbury & Hearn DVD. I believe that Antony plays off of Johanna very well in that version...

I don't think there can be too much blocking, because you don't want to distract the audience from the words. I second Vice's idea of looking at the OBC dvd.

Really? We're talking about Hearn and Lansbury DVD with Betsy Joslyn as Johanna right?

I'm the only one that had bleeding ears after listening to her Green Finch and Kiss Me, and watching her frickin awful acting? No one else got annoyed by the way she was saying her "Oh sir"? lol

There's a video on youtube with Celia Keenan-Bolger as Johanna doing Kiss Me. I like her interpretation a hell of a lot more than Betsy Joslyn's.

Betsy Joslyn has yet to be topped as Johanna.

I just watched her Green Finch and Kiss Me again and I'm still not feeling it.

I think my problem with her is the way she gasps before a lot of her lines, her acting was wayyyy too over the top for me during Kiss Me, and the way she sang some of her lines during Kiss Me... can't really describe it, but I just got annoyed.

I'm still of the opinion that CKB and also Lisa Vroman handled the role better than Betsy Joslyn did.

I've always seen Anthony as the "bottom" in the relationship... dunno why, but I think that if you're playing with levels, he should be almost on the ground.
xD

Also, if you're doing the Quartet also, I think the "cheesy" look might do well at a competition, just so long as you make it so cheesy that it appears as if that's how its supposed to look.

I didn't care for Betsy's interpretation either, but I like the blocking in it.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll check out the videos when I'm not dying from exhaustion, lol.

I'm the same. It's personally VERY SHRILL. It suits the character though.

Glad my advice helped. The only problem I'd see is that the Hearn/Lansbury DVD's blocking is the fact there's a couch... I don't know if you'd want to bother with that...
But you could alter that. (As a note, I rather like the way Anthony acts during the line "I have a plan." is this version, suits the character wonderfully and defiantly establishes him as the less boisterous of the two.)
