Hi! a few days ago i saw the production of dreamcoat in the birmingham hippodrome in the uk. has anyone else seen it or does anyone know any facts about this production that are unique?

i saw the show a few years ago in the same theatre and i thought that this one didn't live upto what i expected - although it still had a great audience response and a fab walkdown and encore!

so... yeah!

any ideas? you know what to do!

I'm going to this show on the weekend. I was in Joseph at the Hippodrome (Birmingham) a couple years ago when it was here and I loved it.

The reason I'm going to see it is because a few of my friends are in it.

Fact:
This year they are getting the kids from a local Stagecoach group.

I've always wanted to play the Pharoh, I love his song. I would like to play Joseph as well, but not as much.

sorry i haven't replied quick, no access to computer... either way, i think the chemistry between a male narrator and Joseph could be interesting but the narrator's the only "good" female part but it could be even better if there was a male and a female narrator...

yeah! it would be cool to see how the music would be arranged to show off the ranges! although, the narrator's the only "good" part in the show, i think it could be worth splitting the part into 2 (or 3 or however many there are!)!

I had a really wierd idea, you know how the kids were sitting on the sides of the stage? Maybe the kids could be the Narrators.

oooh! cool! did you know that in one school production they didn't actually have a narrator ( WHY?!?!?!?!?!) they just made the choir do everything (except stuff that wasn't the narrator...)!

No Narrator! That would be aweful having to listen to some kids screeching for the whole show!

good idea to revive this - thanks! anyway, the choir wasn't aweful but they just had a joseph,brothers and all the parts EXCEPT the narrator! how unfair, not to mention boring!

Yeah, boring is true. I think they need someone to "interact" withthe characters as the story is told.

exactly! another point is if they stick with the "typical" narrator and no cross-gender casting, all the girls - good and bad - would be stuck in the choir, they my as well not be involved. also, the narrator carries the show so even with more than one, it is better than actually having a group of kids there who don't even know the words to the jacob and sons! honestly!

Joseph is dependant on boys more than girls. There are only 4/5 girls in the current UK tour and they are: The Narrator, Mrs Potiphar/ Handmaiden, and the other 3 are handmaiden's. All the Handmaidens do is scream at Pharoh's feet and dance.

how boring would that be? i'm not sure about it but what do you think of a female pharaoh?

I think I've said this before, I wouldn't find it as amusing as a male one, due the Elvis impersonation.

btw, do you know where the full score can be found? i asked the guys at the library to reserve one for me but it's probably the old one...

Erm, check Amazon, or all the lyrics can be found doing a simple google search. But as for sheet music, I only have the normal piano one. There has to be one out the somewhere.

Do you know how they are doing Any Dream Will Do? Will that production of Joseph be the same set, lighting, costumes etc as the current UK tour? Or completely different, or just a little bit different?

in the one that's in the alex at the mo? well, there's the pyramid shaped steps with the gap in the middle which Jospeh comes out of (in the first version of any dream will do) and the smoke fills the stage from in there.

i'm not sure but hopefully it'll be bigger because the one on tour now was way smaller than i imagined, but i think it's a different director so the sets should be different.

I like the way the set is based around the triangle pyramid. And doesn't change constantly throughout the show.

probably! if they don't, both prices will probably go skyhigh cuz any dream will do's making it more famous than ever. Plus, after these tv shows, mt in general is more popular...

Yeah, by the sounds of it, the London set will be the same as the tour because ALW made them do the task about hieghts, 'cus of the picture I posted above.
