Bighi!
Last year my theatre group did a production of "Big"! its the musical of the film with tom hanks in it??
has anyone else done/seen this show? if so what did you think of it and how did you do some of the scenes (this is just out of interest! was watching the dvd again!)
Particularly interested in the fairground and the giant piano scenes! but also how you did the transformation in josh (i.e wee to big!)

I did this show 3 years ago with my high school (I was Abigail). For the fairground scene, we just had some people walking around selling food and stuff, some people walking as fairgoers, and some people in booths being bearded ladies, fortune tellers, etc. Then we had signs advertising the imaginary rides offstage.
For the piano scene, our set crew actually built a big long flat box, painted it to look a piano, and then put colored lights on the front and sensors inside the box. When the actors stepped on the keys, the corresponding light flashed and the piano in the orchestra pit played the correct notes.
For the tranformation, I think we just used a blackout and a giant flashpot!

i havent seen or heard anything from big the musical but it sounded interesting when i heard about the idea. i guess ill have to check it out to know for sure. i dont think it sounds like a terrible idea to make it into a musical.

to be honest, i really didn't like this show! Even though i was in it, i wasn't really pleased with the end results. It's cute sometimes, but really silly and corny the rest of the time. It's ok i guess.

i didn't like it all that much when we did it either! was a bit boring i thought! all the hype was pretty much about the piano!
Our tech team did a fantastic job making the piano though - it was hidden behind a screen at the back of the stage which was obv removed for the piano bit!
It stretched the length of the stage on the floor and also had a thingy ... um... extention type thing that came up from it so the audience could see it which had the piano keys on it!
As our peeps jumped on it it lit up with the sensors underneath it was magical!
(although the dudes that had to dance on it got really annoyed cause our director made them redo it every time they played a wrong note! oops!

it was really funny! that scene turned out great though. he and our choreographer put a lot of extra practice into it!
