Bet hair

Please don't laugh. I'm a hair person, that's my fixation.

At our community theater, we pretty much have to envision our own hair and makeup (and mostly do it ourselves but there are one or two makeup people to make the rounds and help if needed).

How should I do my hair for Bet? Nancy is dying her hair red and doing a flip thing. I don't need to dye anything but I do need to think styling.

I was thinking of doing the Meg Giry look (I'm also posting in the phantom forum to get some advice/photos on that look). I feel that Bet and Meg Giry are somewhat parallel parts. I don't like Bet's hair in the musical DVD, it's too 70s and not young enough for me. I like Meg's hair in the 2004 movie, but I want a bit curlier in the back. I also saw some other Megs from plays on the Phantom forum with the same basic hair but curlier.

Opinions anyone? Memories of Bet hair from your Oliver! productions?
music is my life!!!

i'm having my hair in a small pony tail over my hair for my audition. hair hair goes curly anyway after it's been washed but don't make yourself too presentable. afterall, bet (or nancy!) would not have a proper hair brush so be realistic but don't be too OTT

What style is the director going for? Do you get carte blanche?

Pretty much carte blanche with exceptions. It has to be period, it has to be character, and I have a fat burgundy ribbon to wear.

For our production Nancy (me on the left) and Bet both wore their hair with the front section clipped back....

Our Bet's hair was naturally curly... all we did was clip it back.

Remember that these girls are poor and don't spend hours doing their hair. Even a ribbon cost a good deal more than they could afford. (that's why even getting a ribbon was considered a very nice gift)

btw with all the talk about ages of people playing characters.... I was nearly 41 when I did this show... our Bet was 15

That's how I want it, like Nancy on the left, but with bangs and wavier hair. I'm going to put my hair in braids for a long time and then let it out. I guess the ribbon is supposed to help convey youth. Perhaps a customer paid me with it once....
Salome

they wouldnt have hair with bangs in the 1830s.
music is my life!!!

that picture is exactly how i imagined them (apart from bet cuz she's a brunette and my audition is on sunday and my hair's dark blonde but anyway...)

Salome,

Didn't both Nancy and Bet have bangs in the movie? Actually I think many of the wenches did. They were wrong?

Friday night invited dress I took my hair out from twin french braids from the night before. It went flat.

Saturday and Sunday night shows I pulled the top back and curled the rest of the back into ringlets (semi-sloppy, since the role is not of the "Quality"). That worked a lot better.

Thanks for the tip about no bangs.
