Best romantic moments in a musical(edited)

So... out of curiosity.. what are all of your favorite Romantic Musicals?

edit:
what are all of your favorite romantic moments/songs/lyrics in a musical?

<33
renthead29

Rent...duh...(yes there's romance in it.)
broadwaybelle22

Beauty and the Beast is my first favorite. That whole "beauty on the inside" thing gets me every time Crying or Very sad . Plus I just plain adore the Beast's character. And his awsome songs.

My second favorite would have to be Phantom. You just can't beat Raoul and Phantom as the two leading men. Its the ultimate story of love and sacrafice.
ALoneWanderer

So far for great romance, Rent, Beauty and the Beast and Phantom of the Opera have been suggested.

You peeps must have some strange romance goin on Razz .

To be honest though, as far as really romantic musicals there arn't that many that really hit the spot I don't think. I mean sure a night in the theatre can often be romantic, and most musicals have love stories in them, but few really focus on that and are truly romantic. If Moulin Rouge were a stage show I'd say that. The Last 5 Years is at points somewhat romantic, but it is then also equally disturbing in regards to love. It does however explore the nature of a relationship as its main focus point. The songs from the "positive" part of the relationship really make me want a relationship/happy to have one (depending on the time). The "negative" part of the relationship is really crushing then though.
Bianca.

Good point, ALoneWanderer.

so how about we change up the question.

Best/your favorite romantic moment, or song in a musical?
BroadwayBud

The "You are Woman, I am Man" scene from Funny Girl. Razz
ALoneWanderer

The Next 10 Minutes from the Last 5 Years.
Salome

Camelot..Arthur's speech about Jenny and Lance.. "if i could choose from every woman who breathes on this earth".. gets me every time.

Henry VII and Anne Boylen singing "Away from You" in "Rex".

Robert Browning decliaming "I Carry the Moon In My Pocket" when Elizebeth invites him to tea in"Robert and Elizabeth".
audreydarling

I think the song "Miracle of Miracles" is so cute in Fiddler on the Roof..my favorite "child to adult" romantic moment.

also "It Takes Two" from Into the Woods..and I absolutely adore "Ten Minutes Ago" from R&H's Cinderella and "Without You" from RENT..I am a big fan of the classic romaces Smile as well as the newer stuff
my_work_my_name

Hmm...difficult!

There's plenty of wonderful romantic tension throughout the score of 'A Little Night Music'...I particularly like 'Soon':

"...And think of how I adore you,
Think of how much you love me.
If I were perfect for you,
Wouldn't you tire of me...?"

...and, irrespective of what anyone else may think, I also consider ALW's 'Phantom' to have a great romantic score - Puccini influences or not, I feel the moment immediately following 'Point of No Return' in which the Phantom reprises 'All I Ask of You' is another superb moment.
purplepolkadot

Phantom- what everyone else has said
Moulin Rouge- Singing Come What May to each other
RENT- Without You
Hairpsray- Without Love.. more of a fun happy love
Light in the Piazza- Basically the entire thing..but especially 'Say it somehow'
Defies_Gravity

OK, first off, I'm a hopeless romantic.
Now that that's said, my favorite romance moments are:
Phantom: Point of No Return, Music of the Night, and All I Ask of You (even though Christine needs to be with the Phantom), as well as at the end, when Christine kisses the Phantom, and he starts crying and he lets them go (even though he was an idiot for letting go of Christine)
Wicked: As Long As You're Mine (duh) and I'm Not That Girl.
RENT: Without you, and I would put I'll Cover You, if it wasn't between two homosexuals. Oh, well...
Salome

the moment in KIng and I when Anna and the KIng touch for the first time.

"this is not the way i see Europeans dancing tonight..."

"no your majesty"

They were not holding two hands like this"

"No"

(slipping his hand around her waist and pulling heri n ..)

"It was....like this!"

'yes"

"COME!"
TheLeadingPlayer

Actually I think the most romantic moments are from "The Secret Garden". I was in it, I was Neville (i'm a baritone) but my favorite parts [beside doing Nevilles' songs] were "Girl in the Valley" waltz and the "How Could I Know" duet between Archy and Lily. i think their whole relationship through the show was so romantic and so sad, they still love each other from different planes of existence, it's beautiful. I like welled up when John and Emma (our Archy and Lily) did the duet.
Gwen

On the Street Where You Live from My Fair Lady
The funny thing is that whenever I start singing it, a thought runs through my head: ("this kinda sounds like something a stalker might sing.." haha!)

Also...because the guy who sang this in my highschool's production has an awesome singing voice,
So Easy to Love from Anything Goes...I really should try and find someone who can help me put it on youtube...(Nathaniel N. rox my socks! Cool)
I also saw him as Fagan in Oliver- the only reason I really came back to see it besides the stunning set work. -Sorry, getting off topic here- But when I was a freshman (I saw Oliver! in eight grade,) he was warming up and I recognized his voice right away- that's how memorable this guy was to me. (And he was extremely nice also. Smile)

"Who do you think you are, leaving me, alone with my guitar?
Hold on, there's something you should hear...
It isn't much, but it took all year..."
(Rent) That's one of my favorite favorites.

Yeah, so you're going to thnk I'm REALLY messed up. But I would have to say Little Shop of Horrors is one of the most touching love stories. True, it's buried, but it's definitely there. I mean you have Audrey and Seymour, two people who have never had somebody who really loved them, coming together to form this weird and beautiful love connection.

Along these lines is the whole Aldonza/Don Quixote romance in Man of La Mancha. Don Q. loves Aldonza not for what she is, but what he sees in her.

And finally, there is Eponine. What more is to be said about her? She gives up her life so the person that she loves can be with the person that he loves. I'm not really a huge fan of Les Mis, but Eponine is such a universal character. I mean is there anyone among us who hasn't been in love with somebody who didn't love them back?
me-shellmybelle

The Beast giving Belle the library and the song Something There top my list!
I Love Lockstock

When the Baker's Wife dies in Into the Woods, and the Baker is so devestated...that's love right there...even if I don't like the Baker's Wife. But the Baker's great right there.

And I love Dot's and George's romantic disabilities in Sunday.

I must admit I'm kind of soft for the sincere, comparatively uncomplicated love in SJS shows, like What More Do I Need?

how can you not like the Baker's Wife? the finest musical theatre role for a woman hands down?

and of course Joanna Gleason's masterful portrayal. a pewrformance that should win best actress in a musical for the whole 20th century.
jazzygirlsings

I've always had a soft spot for the song "Least of My Troubles" from Blondel...
mzredbox

I really don't know... but if I had to say something I might say at the end of Man Of La Mancha when Quijana passes away and Aldonza takes on the name of Dulcinea.
aquamarine fishnets girl

Gotta say number one romance to me is "Say it Somehow" from Light in the Piazza. Well, that whole show. But that moment especially.

I'm also fond of "The Next Ten Minutes" from The Last 5 Years, "Suddenly Seymour" from Little Shop, and... in an odd poignant unrequited way "With Every Breath I Take - Duet" from City of Angels.

The Baker's Wife is like an annoying tick to me. I know she's an important aspect to the show, and all that. I appreciate her in the story, just not as a character.
broadwaybaby1310

I know I'm biased because I'm in it right now, but I LOVE "Our Children" and "Sarah Brown-Eyes" from Ragtime.

I think the whole If I Loved You scene and song from Carousel is the most romantic stage scene EVER. The whole 12 minute scene.

That's just what I was about to say! I love that song, especially as it builds to the "How I loved you," and then pulls back into "If I loved you." Emotionally, it's a brilliant piece to sing.

Well, Into the Woods happens to be my favorite musical ever. It's just not an appealing character to me. We're all allowed our opinions, that happens to be mine.
Salome

Funny how it cn be your favorite show and you dont like the lead character..well thats okay...as sweeney todd said "you are young..you will learn."
Sweeney Hyde

Along the same line I love Oklahoma! but I think that Curly and Laurie are AWEFUL characters. I think that Ado Anne, Will Parker, and Aunt Eller are good parts...particularlily Aunt Eller when she gives Laurie the dress...love that part. But I think the best part you could get in Oklahoma! is Jud...he's just such a human character...one of R & H's best in my opinion.

Laurey and Curley make Oklahoma. yes Al iand Will arecgreat.but its the witty Benedick/Beatrice qualities of Laurey and Curley..and Laurey's secert desire for Jud that gives the show its depth. Ivge played Laurey twice.I would never want to play a role like Ado Annie who is just one big laugh line.
Laurey is much more complex, and darker a character.

I never saw Laury and Curly as a Benedick and Beatrice type relationship. Yes, there are some similarities. If the parts were modeled even more like Beatrice and Benedick then it might have made the characters more fun and more appealing to me because they would be taking more personal stabs at each other than what they do. Curly especially, I feel, is a very one diminsional character. I don't know, I just feel that Jud is the best part in the show. BTW I agree that Ado Anne is more of a flat part, but I would, if I were a girl, rather play her than Laurie because, I feel, she has a more fun part on stage.
Salome

have you seen the new version form london with Josephina Gabrielle and Hugh Jackman? its brilliant. Curley and Laurie are much morei nteresting than our typical ingenue and juvinelle roles.

And both productions i did we drew so much on the wit and the rivalry in the Curley and Laurie relationship.

The director of our 2nd production worked with Mary Rodgers in rep in the 1960s. He really brought out the relationship.

As for Annie..I really see nothing in that role except laugh lines. Its not a good role for an actress.
Sweeney Hyde

The most recent production of Oklahoma! I saw was the U. S. National Tour that was based on the royal national theatre/Cameron Mackintosh Broadway production. Is this the one you were talking about Salome. It was, indeed, the best version I have seen of the show. But I still felt as if the character of Curly especially was too one dimensional. He is pretty much the only major character in R & H that I really don't like and would never have an intrest in playing. Now Billy Bigelow...THAT'S a well written leading man role.

I think Mooning in Grease is a strange and yet romantic song... but then again that might be because I performed it with my actual for real boyfriend...

why would they give you the fat role? you arent fat and you are quite pretty.

Aida, oh wow that was so romantic! The part where they have to get into the tomb together and they are pretty much hugging is so beautiful. Also, in Light in the Piazza during "Say It Somehow". I love romantic points in musicals.
Sweeney Hyde

AIDA AS THE BEST ROMANTIC SHOW MOMENT!?!?! Give me a break!
Salome

Aida..along with Children of Eden and Wicked were the 3 worst peices of crap i've ever seen.
Bracknell's_Understudy

Rent, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, and Grease
Brigantine

In Martin Guerre (1999) at the end of the song "Don't", Arnaud is trying to leave (for the best, blah, blah, blah) and they've just had a song about how he thinks their love for each other is wrong because they're not really married, and she says it is not wrong, because they love each other (yes, one big song of circuitous logic) and her last line is "come, my love, just one kiss... one kiss before we say goodbye..."
Whoo! The electricity of those frozen moments before they kiss... my favorite romantic scene in a show. (and then they go on to do a whole lot more than kiss)

And although I haven't seen it and am not a huge fan of all the music, the most poetic lyrics I've heard in Jane Eyre come from Mr. Rochester when he is trying to propose to Jane: "If I had a string under my ribs, knotted to you, connecting our frames, I'd be afraid that many a mile would sever the tie, and I would take to bleeding inwardly..."
Those lyrics grab me every time.

She that is a mistake just saying annie is just one big laugh line. Then if that is how you play here that is how she will tuen out. i have seen some awesome Annie's who were more thena one laugh line.
Overall the show wouldnt work as well without tehg laurey/curly and also the will/annie relationships to counter-balance

Yes I know. However, I am just saying that I think Curly is a flat part. Laurie is too a little. I think that Laurie is a MUCH better part than Curly, however. That's all.
pinkstiletto510

pretty much most of West Side Story....i LOVE the show
vanillabean

Salome that is sweet of you to say - the whole me not being fat and being pretty. So thank you for the compliment Razz

And the girl who was originally cast as Jan dropped out. I had read the role a few times at rehersal (because Jan was absent) and the director asked me to do it. He told me to eat as much as I could and try and plump myself up but I pretty much refused unless he was going to pay for a personal trainer for me after I was done the show. He then threatened to put me in a fat suit which would have been fine with me but one of my costumes was SO tight I ripped it every night dancing.
Eponine93

Hmm... "Sun and Moon" from Miss Saigon is SO CLICHE yet so romantic. It really has a beautiful, beautiful melody.

"It Takes Two" from Into the Woods is such an amazing song. Whenever I hear it, I can't stop smiling. It's that infectuous. That and the guy I liked would dance with me at every reherasal or performance to it and then run on for his cue.

I'll post more later.
arctic_orange

I'm going to agree with Salome about both Camelot and the King and I, two of my absolute favorite moments.

Along the R&H vein, I love "Some Enchanted Evening" and "I Have Dreamed".
Eponine93

I'm going to bump this up and add "Here On This Night" from The Pirate Queen. I haven't seen the show yet, but thank god for Youtube. It's like Sun and Moon, only much cuter.
The Pirate King

"The Next Ten Minutes" from The Last Five Years
ydna

just love l5y

I just love the full Last5Years show. TheNext10Minutes is a truly wonderful moment. Here's an excerpt of that song with 2 performers:

Kate Shindle & Nicholas Rodriguez in the main roles.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MM3HAF2H

Nicholas Rodriguez was part of the wonderful cast of "TheTenCommendments" with ValKilmer. He was truly amazing in that show.
We don't listen that much of him in here... more of Kate Shindle.

I actually LOVE that musical with NORBERT Leo Butz and Lauren Kennedy (rather than Sherie Rene Scott) but would love to hear more from these 2 performers.

D'you like it?
Pounce

I agree with the previous posters that The Light in the Piazza is pretty much all romantic. It's probably the most romantic show ever. It's romance put in overdrive.

I was a little surprised that they felt that Say It Somehow was the most romantic moment. It is romantic but I'd have pegged Love To Me as the most romantic moment of the show (or of any show). What girl, after tearfully telling a guy that he can't love her and she would change things if only she could, can resist him telling her that he loves all those little things about her? In the theater, I could see the girl in front of me was "losing it" a few times during that song. Crying or Very sad

Hehe, I'll have to post a vid of that part of our production from last year, see if I can choke ya up Smile

Although for me, it was always those last few moments at the end, after Arthur and Jennie have said goodbye, just before she walks away forever, that used to choke me up (and I was on stage at the time Razz )

I agree, "Here on this Night definantly" belongs on this list. And I'll just repeat: Thank God for Youtube

And I'm not sure if this has been added yet, but "As Long as You're Mine" from Wicked is pretty damned romantic to me Cool and "I'm Not that Girl" in it'a own, sad sort of way.
Apples2for10

I'm glad that so many people appreciate As Long As You're Mine; that's one of my all-time favorites. However, I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Unworthy Of Your Love" from Assassins is THE most romantic song from any musical.

I agree. "Enchantment Passing Through (Reprise)" makes me cry everytime I hear/see it! Also love "Elaborate Lives" and "Written In The Stars".

Other favorite romantic moments include "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" from Lion King, "For The First Time" from Tarzan, "A Heart Full Of Love" and "A Little Fall Of Rain" from Les Miserables, "As Long As You're Mine" from Wicked, "Sun And Moon" and "Last Night Of The World" from Miss Saigon, and "Without You" from RENT. And probably more that I'm forgetting...

apples are you serious? it's sung to a serial killer
pish123c

I'd have to say "Do You Love Me?" in Fiddler on the Roof.

I guess it's so romantic because romance in marriages was either non-existent or un-spoken of in those days, and Tevye realizing that the crazy new fad called "love", causes him to reach out to Golde. And it turns out they really do care for eachother. It's not romantic in the fiery passionate way, but in the sweet heartwarming way.
Apples2for10

aidancarr wrote:

Love is love, isn't it? Plus, premise aside, it absolutely is (IMHO) the greatest love song heard on Broadway thus far.
Eponine93

I love the fact in A Heart Full of Love in Les Mis, it's basically like a random stranger is climbing over Cosette's garden wall, singing about hearts full of love and totally embarassing himself on the off-chance she'll like him back, and guess what- she does. It's very sweet.

And then there's "Love To Me" from The Light in the Piazza. The one song that makes me cry everytime I hear it, because it's just so beautiful and romantic. My god... I adore that song.

"Dangerous Game" from Jekyll and Hyde can be really charged, depending on how the production is that you see. Originally in my production, the sillohettes in the back were practically pornographic but once we realized the young children in the cast were going to see the show (some as young as five) they had to reblock it.

In it's proper context, too? I find it more disturbing than romantic - the way Fosca's expressions of "love" in Passion are rather disturbing.
Salome

something can be both romantic and disturbing at the same time.

True, but not in this particular case, as far as I'm conserned. I don't really interpret the stalker's ode to Jodie Foster paired with an ode to Charles Manson as romantic in any way.

Out of context, I think the song is only cheesy. Which I assume was the intention, anyway.
Katelyn D

call me unoriginal, but I always thought the finale to Phantom was romantic, when Erik reprises All I Ask of You.

As long as you're mine is also a good one
Wickedfan24601

I would have to say my 2 favorites are "As Long As You're Mine" From Wicked and "A Little Fall Of Rain" From Les Miserables (I still say Eponine should have ended up with Marius)
le_moofin

Hmmm... these are the ones I can think off the top of my head.

All I Ask of You (PTO) - I swoon inside every time... Raoul + Christine = happy tears

West Side Story - I'm just gonna say the whole musical ^_^

Transformation (BATB) - Brings tears to my eyes

Next Ten Minutes (L5Y) - Sad and beautiful and... yeah
HarmonicSoul

"The Phantom of the Opera": All I Ask of You, Finale
"Carousel": If I Loved You
"Les Miserables": A Heart Full of Love, A Little Fall of Rain, Every Day/A Heart Full of Love Reprise (I love Cosette's "My name is Marius Pontmercy." line in that one.)
"West Side Story": The whole musical; Tonight and Maria specifically
"Miss Saigon": Sun and Moon

Not really in the conventional sense, but these are cute:
"Into the Woods": It Takes Two (Also, it's a mother/daughter love rather than romantic, but Stay With Me and Lament are also awesome.)
"Fiddler on the Roof": Do You Love Me?
"The Music Man": Goodnight My Someone
"Oklahoma": People Will Say We're In Love (I get more of a cutesy, puppy-love sense than a romantic one.)

Pretty much mentioned what everyone else did. Oh well.

I agree 187%. The true, real love they both have for each other is incredible. "Suddenly Seymour" is a wonderful, heartfelt love song.
jackissensational

"A Little Fall of Rain," from Les Miz... on second thought. Eponine's entire character is so tragically in love. It's so selfless and... romantic... that she loves someone so much that she lets him be with the one he loves. Jeez, if we could only do the same.

"Maria," from West Side Story is a gorgeous song, as others have said, but I really just don't see it as romantic. Sweet, I suppose, but not romantic. But if the voice of your singer is perfect you can honestly make it romantic, folks!

Do you have anything against the fact that two human beings of the same gender can love each other?

Too answer the Thread's question:
My favourite is "I'll Cover You (Reprise)" I beginn to cry each time I hear it, it is so beautifull!

Pretty much all of She Loves Me. Also, "If Ever I Would Leave You" and "I Loved You Once in Silence" from Camelot.

I love that, too!

I love any of the ones in Les Miserables ... but it's funny how the love songs in those remind me of the relationship between the guy I like and me ...sometimes I'm Eponine and sometimes I'm Cosette. And ironically, he's been Marius in Les Mis SE.

Oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE "Light Romance" from Blood Brothers. The piano intro gets me everytime ... when I heard that during the show I just wanted to run to the guy I like (once he got offstage ... he was in that scene ... not saying which character) and just agh. I also love "I'm Not Saying A Word", too ...

Right, because that totally defies romance. I mean, two people of the same sex? Blech, who could find THAT beautiful? Rolling Eyes

Anyhow, Being Alive from Company gets me every time.
And I'll Cover you (Reprise) from Rent. It tears me apart--you can really tell how much Collins loved Angel.
Mistress

My favourite romantic moments are As Long As You're Mine (Wicked), the last part of My Friends (Sweeney Todd) where Lovett duets with Sweeney...and all of the love duets between Tiernan and Grace in Pirate Queen (Hadley Fraser and SJB sound amazing together Mr. Green ). There are probably more, but I can't think of 'em right now... Confused

Edit: I almost forgot Not While I'm Around (I sort of mother-son type love) Johanna and I'll Be There and Surrender, Tiernan's solos in Pirate Queen...possibly more romantic than the duets. And I agree with other posts that All I Ask of You reprise is also a highly romantic song, although it's very sad as well. Oh and I almost frogot Lovett's "By the Sea" a dillusional romantic song, but romantic (and a little raunchy) nonetheless.

Actually, I'll fix that list a little (This is just my IMO BTW, the others still stabnd as great romantic scenes:

1. Surrender
2.I'll Be There
3. Here on This Night, If I said I Loved You, and Finale
4. As Long As You're mine
5. Sweeney/Lovett duet at the end of My Friends.

and you can't forget How Do I Love Him from JCS (It's blasphemy, I know, but I just saw Renee Castle's performance from the newer version of the film it it was highly romantic, at least until Jerome Pradon's Judas licked her face Shocked )

'All the Wasted Time' - Parade.
Yip1982

There are a myriad of romantic moments in the R&H musicals, but I'm very fond of the Tuptim-Lun Tha duets, Some Enchanted Evening and Something Good.
Anno_Domini

Dear God, I can think of so many romantic moments that musicals have presented...I'll only give my Top 5 moments

1. Sweeney Todd

I'll never forget that moment when Sweeney finds out the Beggar Woman's identity.

"Lucy...I've come home again......Lucy....oh My GOD! Lucy....what have I done...!"

Beautiful....simply beautiful and heartbreaking

2. Legally Blonde

Yeah, yeah, I know...but it really is a fun show, despite what you may or may not think. And it does have some touching moments.

I am speaking of the moments between Elle and Emmett during the title song, as well as the finale (i.e. Elle's proposal and everything that follows)

3. The Phantom of the Opera

What can I say. The show's been on B'Way for twenty freakin' years. And yes, Erik's final reprise of "All I Ask Of You/The Music of the Night" was glorious - a beautiful way to end the show.

4. Moulin Rouge

I don't care if it was only a movie (thus far), the story of Christian and Satine is a splendid tale as much as it is a tragic one.

5. Jekyll & Hyde

Yes, Salome, I know you absolutely abhor this show; this, however, is irrelevant, as the final moments of the play are wonderful. Emma holding Jekyll in her arms as that haunting melody draws the show to a close - breathtaking

THANK YOU! I agree. Legally Blonde is one of my favorite shows. But personally, the whole bench scene (If I Loved You), from Carousel takes the cake. As Long As Your Mine is up there too.

Personally i think the secret love affair between Jesus and King Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar is pretty priceless. Why do you think Judas really got so pissed off?

P.S. that's clearly meant as a sarcastic joke please don't get offended and/or send angry emails and/or sharpen your angry mob tools
broadwaybirdie

ahhhhhhh I absolutely love in West Side Story when Tony kills Bernardo, and Maria still loves him.
newbiedirector

Has nobody on this site seen or done Brigadoon?! Some of the most romantic moments ever I think are in this show:

Come to me, Bend to me (Charlie sings to his betrothed because he can't see her until the wedding)

There But for You Go I (Tommy expresses his new love to Fiona and how it has fundamentally changed him as a man in a matter of hours)

I totally agree!

I was going to say 'Legally Blonde, the Musical' too!

I love the scene in Wicked where Fiyero and Elphaba start making out on stage. <3

I was in this show, and yes, it has some cute moments, but i'm not sure they're my favorite moments...the whole Tommy/Fiona thing is just a little too unrealistic for me, but then again i feel the same way about Romeo and Juliet...so maybe i'm just a heartless curmudgeon
ILoveToSing2010

I have to say almost every single song Coalhouse and Sarah sing together in Ragtime. To "New Music", "Wheels of a Dream", "Sarah Brown Eyes", and The Finale at the end makes me what to cry.
wtfchuck

for me it would be the song "im not saying a word" from Blood Brothers.

Eddie (my favourite part to watch and act) sings to Linda (his brothers long term girlfriend/fiance) about how ,if he was his brother, he would do so many romantic things. and then he goes on to say how he wont do any of it because he loves both of them (even though he doesnt know his brother is his brother)
curlyhairedsoprano91

I think my favorites are ....

1. "A Heart Full of Love," Les Mis. Ohmigod so cute.

2. "In Whatever Time We Have," Children of Eden.

3. "Now I Have Everything," Fiddler.

4. "Miracle of Miracles," Fiddler.

actually thats one of the most laughable endings to a show ever staged.

*SPOILERS*

Another one I've been thinking about is "Fantasies Come True" from AVENUE Q, probably because I've seen it twice and was blown away by it each time. To a point, "Fine Fine Line" blew me away each time as well, but in a different way. In "Fantasies", on one hand you have Rod singing to another man, and then Kate pouring her guts out to Princeton. Not only do Kate and Rod harmonize very well, but Kate, to this point, is a character who feels uncomfortable opening up, so for her to shed her emotional skin like she does in "Fantasies" is a big deal. Then on Rod's end, you have the ultimate irony when Rod realizes "Oh, crap, this wasn't a dream and I just made an ass of myself". Two entirely different kids of love, one perfect romantic moment.
Monsieur D'Arque

Here are some no one's suggested yet/heard of.

The song on its own is anything but romantic, but when I did Hair, the scene "Easy To Be Hard" became inexplicably touching. (It's probably important to note that Berger was played as the ubercool "calm within the storm," a sort of ringleader instead of the wild animal freak show some peopl opt to play him as. The catch to this is that he comes of as something of a hypocrite, caring more about his image and about sex than about any social cause, until Claude's death.) While Sheila sang, Berger sulked, coming down from his sudden breakdown. He keeps shooting looks at Sheila, getting up to talk to her, then changing his mind. He went over and talked to Woof while she finished the song. When it ended, she turns and sees Berger behind her, wearing the ripped shirt, and they embraced. It was cute.

Dominic Nolfi (Ash) performed a touching "The Time Has Come" in Pokemon: The Musical. It's total kitsch, but this is the only serious moment in the whole thing, a dramatic Broadway power ballad. Then again, it's probably only good because of Nolfi.

As far as unlikely romance or May-December love, "I Wanna Be Yours" from Little Me takes the cake.
DontDoSadnessxx

my favorite has to be delovely.

because the moment is quite delovely =]
