This will answer all your questions:
www.performingarts-auditionguide.com and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Want-Tread-Boards-Everything-you-need-know/dp/1906217025/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1214342552&sr=8-1 MT courses: It depends if your strength is singing, dance or both but generally for 3 year courses Mountview, GSA and Arts Ed are the ones to aim for (no particular order). |

The BAs in Musical Theatre at Mountview, Central, Arts Ed, GSA etc are VERY popular and the ones everyone wants to get on.
Generally any accredited course is what you're after. There's a full list of accredited courses and loads more information on www.ncdt.co.uk |

hmmm
singing is definitely my strong point, although its closely followed by acting. the difference is that i have a lot of talent with voice whereas i am only a strong actor because i have been acting for a long time - NOT stage school acting but real gritty stuff - because pretty much all of my dads side of the family are directors, agents, playwrights etc. so i have learned how to get into a character. my drama teacher says if it wasnt for my voice he would strongly recommend me to look into directing as a future career because he thinks i have talent for that. my dancing is okay - i do contempary and have had some experience in musical theatre, tap, jazz and street. i am doing GCSE dance as an after school course but no outside dance classes, whereas i spend all my time out of school doing music theory schooling, singing lessons, piano lessons, technique drama classes, & group drama classes. does that make a difference? thank you |

If you want to train in musical theatre you have to start taking regular ballet and jazz classes now - at a renowned dance studio with a good standard. Not sure if you are near London but if so, go to Pineapple or Danceworks.
I would think considering your family background your dad and his side of the family are probably the best people to advise you. |
