Best Louise?

So there's already been a topic about who's the best Rose (I think Angela Lansbury won) but what about the best Louise?

Natalie Wood
Laura Benanti
Crista Moore
Whoever played her in Bernadette's revival...I can't remember.
And others that I likely forgot! lol

Who will win? Very Happy
LadyOfTheLake

Tammy Blanchard was in the Bernadette revival.

I really like Laura Benanti in the role.
And Natalie Wood.
And Cynthia Gibb, in the Bette Midler movie (though I didn't really care for Midler).

I thought Bette was great in it!

I really do like Bette a lot, I just thought that so many people had done it better.

Only thanks to a few dedicated supporters, I reckon if there is a Poll this won't be the case.

Bette was an even worse Rose than Bernadette.

as far as Louise...

Cynthia Gibb and Crista Moore are easily the best ive seen.

hated blanchard and Benanti
Dots Parasole

Benanti was the best.
LittleGavroche

I wonder, has anyone seen Missy Dowse on tour?
ilovebway

Although I haven't seen the others, I really enjoyed Cynthia Gibb.

Why don't people like Benanti? I thought she did very well in that part. I also loved Tammy Blanchard and Natalie Wood.

Gonna have to go with Benanti on this one... and Wood. I also didn't mind Benanti's understudy, Jessica Rush I believe? I thought her interpretation was refreshing, a bit more...reserved as the transformed Louise compared to Benanti. Gibbs was quite good, but I didnt care for Blanchard at ALL however.
Salome

I gave Benanti another chance in Gypsy. but she was just as stagey and poor as she was in ITW and Nine.

When I saw Gypsy on broadway, I actually saw Benanti's understudy (it is Jessica Rush), and thought she did a fantastic job; I'd say she's easily the best that I've seen.

I really like Crista Moore's singing voice, and the way her speaking voice changes as her character changes; she develops a "stripper voice" lol
But I thought Natalie Wood was pretty good.

Not only that, but I don't think she understood the part very well. She ruined the dressing room scene preceding Rose's Turn by gutterally screaming at Rose. That turned me off completely, which is a shame because that's my favorite dialogue scene in the show. But then again, most aspects of the LuPone revival turned me off.

Apples, I just realized that your avatar is video game sprites of the Golden Girls. That might just be the most epic thing ever. I'm not even kidding.

Actually, that was one of my favorite Benanti moments. Very refreshing. Usually, yelling is the "safe" choice in an argument, but in this case, given every other performance of the role before Benanti, it was not. That scene alone won her the TONY, I guarantee you.

Mind you, when I first saw the production, and saw her understudy, Jessica Rush, the "gutterally screamed" lines were done in a more pleading manner, and it was just as fabulous. I hate that almost every other Louise I've ever seen (including every actress listed in the beginning of the topic) just throws those lines away, like a goddamned robot. Benanti and Rush, under the direction of Laurents, were actually fighting for something. They got it right.
