Best line in the show

What line do you think is the best in the show. I recently saw a production of Oliver! where the funniest lines were

Mr. Sourberry :Whats happening in my parlor?

and

Mrs. Bedwin: I do.
(this one is after Nancy says something about not knowing what is like to love a man who needs you)

Both of these lines where hillarous based on the delivery
Trevor

Well... I've always enjoyed Mr Bumble's "Meat, madam, meat!"
Salome

Bumble: if that is the law then the law is an ass! if that is the law then the law is a bacheor and the most i can hope for the law is that its eaye be opened by experience!"

She'll go Fagin.

No she won't

Yes she WILL Fagin!
Salome

how is that funny?? nancy get a jimmy in the gut after that line.
Trevor

I think that's funny...

Totally joking. Don't hate me.

In my production, which was a youth production way back in the day, the scene that killed me the most was the one between Noah and Oliver at the Soweberry's...but only because our Noah was the worst actor in the world and sounded like he was reading directly from the script with no vocal inflection.

I don't really remember the show being particularly funny though, again, probably due to my cast/other casts I've seen do this show since then. If the delivery isn't there any line that could be funny can fall flat with the audience.

Me: "I've brought the boy, ma'am."
Corney: "You would..."

For some reason our Nancy had a hard time keeping a straight face when I screamed: "It's Nancy! He's murdered Nancy!"

And of course, all the lines while Oliver is in the coffin...
dantheman

I personally like "I Shall Scream."

Bumble: If my lovey dove is chubby, would she love a chubby hubby?
Corney: I shall scream, Mr. Bumble, I shall scream, Bumble Wumble, I shall scream, scream, scream!

well, if we are going with song lyrics as weel

Mr Sowerberry: Thats your funeural

Mr. Bumble: Thats your funeural
Salome

as far asd lyrics there are some great ones but i think my favorite rhyme in the show is

"we don;'t harbour
thoughts macabre
theres no need to frown
in the ewnd we'll either
burn you up
or nail you down!

i love the rhyme on harbour (pronounced harbah) and macabre!

Bacon? That's interesting, in our production it's "sausages"

I also like the whole "meat" speech, and when Fagin is talking to Charley

Fagin: "What have you got?"
Charley: "Nose-rags"
Fagin: "They're very nice...er...yellow and green"

(in our production at least, that's the way it goes)
Apollyon

Shut Up Drink Yer Gin!

(I was in a production where this line wasn't in it, we added it in anyway)
broadwaybound06

My favorite line was mr. sowerberry's "oh good we must all sit on Oliver" when they're all sitting on the coffin. i thought it was hilarious.

sausages in our production too. We actually had little sausages every night for the kids to eat.

I like the part where Fagin yells at the kids to drink their gin too.

"That's Your Funeral".... very funny!

I've played Mr Sowerberry and I don't recall that line. It's not in the stage show is it? Are you talking about the movie?
music is my life!!!

Some of the best lines in our show came from the scene with Mr. Bumble and Widow Corney after they were married...

"Married. And two weeks ago tomorrow it was done. It seems an age!!"

as well as:

"It opens the lungs, exercises the eyes, washes the face and softens the temper, so CRY AWAY!"

and:

"...unless you want me to do something desperate!! Well, are you going?"
"Certainly, madam, certainly. I had no intention of staying. It's just that you are so very violent!"
wicked_boy

When Charlotte (is it her?) throws water over Mrs Sowerberry (is it her?)
music is my life!!!

ja! that is hilarious! (it is charlotte at that point btw)

I loved
Bumble: thus being my (mispronounced) prerogative
Corney: you're prerogative
Bumble: I said the word, madame. The (mispronounced again) prerogative of a man...and so on.

I don't know why. It just made me laugh[/i]

"I Shall Scream" is definitely the best part of the show. Mr. Bumble is juat amazingly funny. I love him.

i liked dr. grimwig's line "i'll eat my head". but that might have been because i was dr. grimwig......
