Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Has anyone ever been in this show?

I know the story, but how do they perform it? Meaning, is it done as a play or do they incorporate music into it, too?

I would like to prepare myself for an audititon. Basically, I would like to know exactly what it is I would be auditioning for. Of course, then again, every company may put the show on differntely. I don't know.

I was in this show when I was in the 4th grade, so I don't really remember a whole lot about it, but I do remember that we sang during the "pagent" part of the show, but it was just some basic Christmas carols.

Yeah, that is kind of what I was figuring it would be. Well, it is good to know that, at least. Smile

I have never been in a Christmas show before. So, I thought it would be kind of fun.

Why not call the director and ask your questions? I always welcome questions about the shows I direct before auditions.

I was in this show waaaaay back. It was good times.

Basically, you just sing a few Christmas Carols, and generally end the show with one after the bows. The show itself is a cutesy play with the script being a carbon copy of the lines from the book. I hope you get into it - it's a fun, fluffy experience!

Thanks! Very Happy

I actually wanted to do it because it was "fluffy" Smile .

It would be nice to take it a little easy during the holiday this year and I thought the would be a good one for that.

I've done this show twice (my first ever role was Gladys, and then I was Beth five years later). It's one of my favorites, if only for the nostalgia. As for the music, there's the typical Angel Choir during the pageant. Both times, we incorporated secular Christmas songs between scenes (partially to give the techies more time to change the set!). For example: the Herdman's sang "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer," the Church Ladies sang "Most Wonderful Time of the Year," the pastor sang "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," Father sang "White Christmas".... you get the idea. However, the songs aren't mentioned in the script, so you may not be using them.

Who are you thinking of auditioning for?

Hey guys! Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm auditioning for this show in October. Early, I know, but I like to prepare as early as possible for stuff. I'm sixteen, any ideas what part I should go for? I'm looking at Imogene. The assistant director from the last show this company did said that she thought I'd have a pretty good chance at it. I can't find much about it though, so I don't know if I'd want someone else possibly. Any opinions?

I personally prefer Imogene played by a younger cast member, but I've seen an older cast member play her and the play went fine.

I would say Imogene would be your best bet, as long as you're not the largest member in the cast. Ralph, if I remember correctly, is supposed to be the largest.

Okay thanks. I guess it will depend on who plays Ralph. Everyone I've talked to said that when they did it six or seven years ago Imogene was about my age. So I guess that's what I'm going for. Any advice?
Nettik

I've seen Imogene played very tongue-in-cheek and very almost goth in nature. Just look through the lines and see how you want to play the character.

And an understanding of the character's background helps a lot. If you haven't already, read the book.
