Best ALYAM (As Long As You're Mine)Hi! I've just joined, you can call me Angela. I decided to have an icebreaker by talking some Wicked, so I can get into the swiong of things.
My question for you is, What is you're favourite performance of As long as you're mine? I watch a lot on Youtube, so i've seen several performances. Personally, I LOVE the new blocking they used in the London version, it's so romantic and intimate, but I also love Julia Murney and Sebastien Arcelus on Broadway. She can't seem to keep her hands off of Sebastien's ass! I also love Shoshana Bean and David Ayers (i think) he was always like (---- the song, I want to make out with you right now" it was really cute. So what doi you guys think?

Hello! Welcome to the forum!
I will give my opinions, but I should warn you that most forums are very touchy on the subject of these types of vids, so there is a chance your thread might be edited by a mod, or even locked. Just so you know.
Personally, I quite like Ana's ALAYM. I love how she looks so unsure and supprised when he kisses her the first time. Its a very realistic portrayal of how someone unused to human contact (like Elphaba) would react in such a situation.
I also love Julia and Sebastien. Julia really blows me away, she is incredibly tallented. I love the sincerity and the pleasure you can see with her. I like her performance most. As you can tell, I tend to focus on the Elphabas more!
I have seen Idina and Adam live, and I thinked they worked so well. I dont watch bootlegs of London, however (it goes against the reasons why I watch them in the first place), so I dont have a lot to go on bar my memory, but it was beautiful.
Enjoy the forum!

Me too. When I first found youtube, I saw the number of DG vids they had, and I avoided them like the plague- I objected greatly to bootlegs then. I still do, but I watch some for specific reasons, and dont stray from that.
At the time, I had seen a flyer for musicals in London, and Wicked was one of them. I thought, yeah, that sounds interesting. Next time we go to the theatre for a special occasion, I might think of seeing that. Several months later, I discovered youtube, and about half a year after I saw that flyer, I realised that those vids were actually from that musical. It took me a long time to actually watch one, and I want really that impressed (think bad recording, and a sick belting Elphaba). Later, I watched a few others, just to see what it was like, because DG is just one song, of course, and I found I quite liked it.
It only took me a couple of months after my research to find out that Wicked hadnt even opened in London yet...
If it wernt for youtube, I never would have been interested in Wicked- I had long forgotten that flyer. And the reasons I still watch some bootlegs is to compare actors performances. The different qualities in their voice, the different interpretations of the character, the way they act certain things. But I only watch those who it is impossible for me to see live, so I dont watch any vids from London, especially of Kerry. Ive seen the show properly 3 times with Idina, which I really enjoyed, but for once, I want to see an Elphaba for the first time and not know anything about their performance. I have heard so many wonderful things about Kerry, I'm really looking forward to seeing her live, and there is no way that I'm going to spoil myself!
PS- I really envy you for seeing Sho live- she is one of my two favorite Elphabas, the other being Julia. What I would give to be able to see her live in a theatre... That would be quite a dream for me! Unfortunitly, the plane ticket would bankrupt me, and I doubt whether I would have the corage to fly to America. Well, she's finished her run now, so I guess that will never happen anyway.
(Mods- Feel free to remove my post if you want. I know I'm probably going a bit over the line, but I'm just honestly writing my experiences. I would nor could ever take a camera into a theatre and press the rec button- now that is way over the bounderies I have. And I apologise for my spelling...)

As far as chemistry goes, Idina and Taye win.
As far as actual singing, I think Sebastian and Julia are really good together.

I have to say, I always thought Idina and Norbert had the best chemistry in ALAYM (and in general?)
But the best ALAYM I have seen live, and up there, if not my favourite all-around, was Victoria Matlock and Cliffton Hall. There was something about the way they were able to balance eachother out, niether taking control or pulling back any more than the other. It was passionate, but so sweet and real. Victoria portrayed Elphaba as trying to through herself into this bliss to escape, and Cliffton (or what I saw/heard of him) calmed and balanced her nicely. I could completely believe that Fiyero and Elphaba needed each other. Cliffton definately made the most of his role. Even though I could only see his back the entire time. Stupid Providence lottery seats.

ok...Taye and Idina are really cute of course...and they look like they're having a lot of fun up there..
Idina and Norbert...my favorite vocally...and tons of passion there..but I am personally attached to them as a pair because of recent events in my uhh..personal life
Kristy and Kristofer...love them to death...but I didn't get to see it up close
Staphanie and Derrick....whoa...agressive elphaba....definitely a more umm...intense version
Eden and Derrick....again ok...I just didn't really like Derrick's portrayal.....
but I think my favorite would have to be Idina and Norbert...we should make a poll!

But you have to consider other combinations - I love Eden's ALAYM, but Derrick ruins it. Eden with Norbert is great, though.

Umm I haven't seen just too many, but I really like Idina and Norbert. I saw Stephanie and the understudy, and it was good, but I only heard it once. I've seen shoshana's and I didn't care for it much.
