Belle with braces?

Hi everyone, my high school is doing Beauty and the Beast this fall and I am very excited! I am a junior, and I am trying out for Belle. I think vocally and acting wise I stand a very good chance at this part, but the one thing that scares me most is this: I have braces. Do you think this will hurt me at all? I'm really worried. I am trying to get them off before the show opens but I'm not sure how possible that is. I'm so nervous! Auditions are in 9 days!

Well, in High School nowadays, every other person has braces. Every amateur (or any production with teens, for that matter) will have kids with braces. It's just life. I will be getting braces, and I will be in Narnia, which is set in, like, the 1930s. It's just something that you can't help. If it was really that big of an issue, you could always get fake teeth or something for the show. I've seen it done and it works fine, but I can't imagine they are all that comfortable.

But if there is someone else who has the same acting/singing/etc quality as you, but doesn't have braces, she will probably get the part.

If the director was trying to produce a High School show without kids with braces, there would be.... maybe... three or four people on the stage. Razz

It shouldn't be a problem. It's High School, honey. Everybody's got braces.

My Belle also had braces at the time of the production. Honestly, braces may be obvious to you in everyday life, but no one is going to notice them in a performance. Just get plain silver rubber bands on them to make them as simple as possible (no fun colors like green or blue, etc) at the time of the performances, and they won't even be noticeable. (Don't try getting the white bands thinking it will help blend in with your teeth...I've seen people try that and they just get stained with coffee and stuff and it looks awful, lol.)

I don't even think it would be that substantial of an issue. Don't worry about it at all. Seriously, it won't even enter anyone's head.

I wish I had braces. All I've got is crooked teeth that have to wait atleast another year. I think my orthodontist heard bad things about me and is trying to hold it off.

I really woudn't worry about that. So many kids have braces now that directors know they have to cast kids with them. Just be the best you can be, and if you're better than everyone else you'll get the part, assuming there isn't a senior good enough to do it(I know politics suck, but seniors usually do get first pick). Sing your heart out and the audience will never notice! Very Happy

That's ok! After all, now you can drool over Gaston and get to sing one of my favorite parts!

Yes it's sure to be super fun. Oh, and the girl who did get Belle has braces! So I know it wasn't that that kept me from the part. Very Happy
