Belle Audition

Hey everyone! I was in "Beauty and the Beast" last summer as a townsperson/dancing plate. It was so much fun that I've decided to audition again this summer at a different theatre. I'd love to be Belle this time. Any suggestions for good songs? I've definitely got the stereotypical "Disney Princess" voice. Range low F to top C. Both legit and belt. Thanks guys, any suggestions would be wonderful!

Hmmm... "In My Life" from Les Miserables might work. It encompasses a lot of what Belle stands for (wanting more out of life, being sheltered, etc.) plus it shows off range. Or you could go with "Gimme Gimme" from Thoroughly Modern Millie. Do NOT ask me why I chose that but it just seems to fit for some reason. Plus it is a fun song that shows off the voice very well if done correctly. Or maybe "Someone to Watch Over Me" from Crazy for You? Ooooo!! Or "Somewhere That's Green" from Little Shop of Horrors could work. That is another song that is about longing for another life. Speaking of another life... how about "A New Life" from Jekyll and Hyde? Ya forget Gimme Gimme and Someone to Watch Over Me. Those are my top 3 picks. In My Life, Somewhere That's Green, and A New Life. I like those. Lemme know if you just hate those and need some more suggestions.

Would it be ok to pick another Disney song? Something like Ariel's song [sorry names has slipped my mind] fom The Little Mermaid, or a Snow White song, Some Day my Prince will Come and so on.

You'd have to be careful not to 'copy' the films but they might work ok.

Good Luck.

Lets us know how it goes.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. Yeah, I was thinking maybe "A New Life" or "Someone Like You" from Jekyll. I don't know how I feel about singing Disney music for my audition. I think maybe they'd prefer Broadway, but I'm not sure. Anyway, thanks, and keep the suggestions coming! Smile

What kind of theater are you auditioning for? university? Community?

How about "If I were a Bell" form G&D? (range is B to Eb)
"How Could I Ever Know" from Secret Garden (range is B to high-er F)
"Far From the Home I love" from fiddler (C to E)
"Ribbons Down my Back" from Hello Dolly (A to D)
"How Many Tears" from Martin Guerre (A to F)

If any of these sound good, I have music for them. PM me and I could mail it to you.

I don't like the idea of doing Part of Yuor World for an audition for BATB, but- I did part of Just Around the Riverbend at auditions, and I thought it fit really well- not too cutesy disney, it had a wide range and two different tempos, a beltier part and ballad part, all in about 1 1/2 minutes of music!
Plus, it also fits with Belee's character- longing, wanting to make the right choice(s), wanting adventure and love.

I did "Somewhere That's Green," and got called back for Belle. Alan Menken wrote the score, which is the same composer as BATB, so that's the kind of sound you want to show. Listen to Kerry Butler's version...sounds just like Ariel, which is what you're basically going for.
