Beetles' Tattoo

I was wondering how may productions still used the full Tattoo. Not necessarily using the tap-off, but just all of the main number, with Jenny organising the beetles, getting them tapping in order, before the "Britannia" section, and then all of the following dance.

I noticed from Youtube that the Dutch tour cut about half of the number, and many seem to cut straight to after the Britannia section.

I think the World Tour still uses the full version. Not sure if they use the 'tap off' or not, the US version never did (they yanked it in previews) and I'm not sure if the Hamburg version did either.

I noticed that in the Dutch version and was disappointed. Sad

I know the World tour does, (reason I asked really), with no tap-off.

Did the UK tour do the whole thing, or a shortened version?

The UK tour did the same version as the one from the Dutch tour.

Yeah, I don't think our recent UK tour even had the few notes from Rule, Britannia..
Toxic

oh they did have the britannia bit! every european production had that. Wink
Mike42

Really? As far as I remember (bearing in mind last time I saw the UK tour was May 2008..but I did see it 5 times =P), our's just went straight through, without the cut-in of Rule.

I may be remembering wrong, of course.
Toxic

now I'm not so sure anymore....lol...hmmm....I've seen it far too often, I don't really care about the tiny details like the brit-bit anymore...Wink maybe I'm just mixing the shows up a bit.

I have an audio of the UK tour and there isn't the britannia bit.
mantarnia

I just wish they had put all of it on the video. The cut is so obvious.

So, I was researching this topic on youtube(yes, i know, but i love it to death!) and found some "ancient German version of Gumbie Cat with odd costumes that look like they came from regionals, but It did indeed have the entire Tap number, INCLUDING the Tap Off. The likn is:

That isn't from a regional production, that's the Vienna production that ran from 1983 to 1987.
The director was Gillian Lynne and the first German recording is from this production.

I was trying to skip around this, but yeah - this is pretty much the same source I was basing my 'memory' on. Embarassed

Here we go. Berlin. This is basically what the World Tour Tattoo is like. It does sound very odd here though, as the audio seems to be a soundboard, so you can only hear the tapping when the mics are on.

I must say I liked the chorograph of the later parts even thou I didnt understand half of it... Cool Applause

I will upload another "The Old Gumbie Cat" from Berlin 2002. But it's a soundboard as well.
Was the tattoo in later London the same as the one in Berlin?
OldDeuteronomy

the Original Amsterdam production had an interesting version of the tap off that I don't think was in any other version it starts right at the end of the 2nd Chorus.

The Original Amsterdam production was based on the later Vienna production so I think the tap off in Vienna was like the one in Amsterdam.

there was a later Vienna version? wow now that i didn't know

I mean the Vienna production since 1987, it changed a bit, here's a little video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ba4KhCIZlQg&feature=player_profilepage

I think it's the same as Amsterdam
