BatB on Video?I need one for research purposes. I am the parent over-seeing the props crew and I would like to see the show to see what other have used.
Anyone willing to send a copy of their production? It can be just a school production, doesn't need to be a professional one! I will pay for postage and cost of copying!
Thanks!

Somebody posted a link to the full production from their high school here awhile back - early 2007. If you search through the posts you should be able to find it. It takes awhile to download, but it's the whole show. (Total copyright violation too, but so is any video of the production.)

It's only a violation if they didn't pay for video rights. But if they did, it's legal.

Well, maybe not the whole show, but there should be enough clips of different scenes to help piece most of it together

The video rights for Beauty and the Beast are owned by Disney.
But if you'd like to educate me by showing me where you can pay for the rights to videotape your theatrical production, please do. I'd love to know if the laws have changed. (Not snark... really. I learned this stuff in grad school years ago, and if laws have changed and the rights houses are now selling video rights, I'd love to know what they are and what they royalties on such things.)

Every contract I've signed in recent years has had a clause to make ONE file copy video for the school. That's it.

Oh, let's not go into the whole "rights" fight again I saw on another thread. Schools do it. I can find them on YouTube. This isn't rocket science here people!
People break the law, we know it! How often (for those who drive) do you go above the speed limit??
I'll find what I need. Never mind. Thanks to those for replying with helpful information. This forum has been great to get to know the show better!

For the record, not my school. We stop parents from videotaping, too.
And just so you know...I don't speed either.

Lots of shows (including BATB) have an optional rider now that will allow a videotape to be made for the archives. BATB is also one show which allows videos for cast members and their families for personal use only. The cost is about $75 if I remember correctly. Posting it on youtube is still illegal.

At any rate, the full version that was posted here was not on YouTube. It was privately hosted. I'm sure if you review old posts you will find it. I don't know if it's still up.
I'm just boggled by all the folks who have contracts that allow distribution of videotapes of their production! Single copy archive tapes are normal. Allowing distribution of the video to cast members, family and friends... that's what I've never seen in a contract. For anybody reading the expert opinions here, I'd recommend real caution on this unless you've laid eyes on this clause personally. Otherwise you risk serious trouble. But if you know you're legally protected, then have at it!

Of course you should have it in writing before you do it. As I said, it's a separate rider for your contract. If you don't have it with your contract, then it's illegal. I have a copy of the contract in my hands right now. The rider too. Two copies of each actually. I do NOT condone breaking copyright laws EVER. We did SOM in the fall and we did not videotape it because there is no available rider for that show.
Whether it is hosted on youtube or another forum, it IS illegal. It is for personal home use only. This is clearly stated in the rider which I HAVE.
