Barefoot in the Park

This is the show that my community theatre is putting on this summer! I just read it and I'm psyched to audition for Corie, even though I don't necessarly fit her physically. It's the only summer show within a 40 mile radius of my town this year, so I don't have much choice...Figured I'd give it a shot!

Anyone know this show? Like it? Been in it? Have any audition advice?

Yes, I was the telephone repairman, a small role you can have some fun with. It's a very small cast.

Why not do something from another Neil Simon show at the audition?

You're so lucky! Corie is one of my dream roles! Break a leg at your audition!

I have a few things going for me...The director knows and likes me, and has worked with me before so she knows that I'm easy to get along with and that I work hard. There also isn't a large talent pool of women under 40 in my area. There are only a couple that I can think of, and one of my main contenders just had a baby or is about to have a baby, so there is little chance of her auditioning.

Things against me. My weight, for one thing. Corie is usually portrayed as a fiesty little lovely thing. However, this will probably only be an issue depending on the guy they have playing Paul. My age, also. Although I'm pretty much the right age (early 20s) for the character, I read a little younger. The final thing is that there is one woman who will DEFINITELY get the part if she auditions...I'm not sure if she was planning on it or not. She's fabulous and would do a fabulous job, though.

Fingers crossed for me!

Good Luck! I've heard it's a great play...

This woman in theatre that I know mentioned it the other day (she was in it) and said it was her favorite production!

From what I've heard about it, I'd definitely be interested in seeing it. Smile

Brittany, you'd be a perfect Corrie. you look the role and you seem to have the perfect personality for her.

I'm super jealous. I'd kill to play Corie! I hope you get the part!

Barefoot In The Park is a great, hilarious show. I definitely think you'd have a shot as Corie. Even though you might not fit the typical mold, if you're good enough it shouldn't matter. If you haven't seen the movie yet, rent it. It's incredibly close to the play. The only major changes are the fact that it opens in their new apartment, not in the hotel, and they leave out the restaurant scene. It'll give you a general feeling for the play and what it's about. Thanks jax. I like to go into an audition knowing that I'm at least a little right for a part, which I don't feel particularly about this one, but It'll be a good experince either way.

I've read the script and watched a production of it. I was thinking about watching the movie but Jane Fonda might make me feel bad about my chances, Lol!

I actually ended up enjoying the girl who played Corie in our local theater's production more than Jane Fonda.
