Awful Rehearsal

I did not know where to put this at, so I decided to put it under the musical it is for.

Today, I had my 3rd Little Shop of Horrors rehearsal (in a month period, so I have only been told to come 3/20 rehearsals). I have a lot of problems going on right now with family sicknesses and whatever, so I haven't had much of a chance to go over my script as much as I usually do.

By the way, I'm Orin just to answer that question.

So, I know about half of my lines, all of my songs, and I have given Orin a personality so far in only about a 2 hour period of time. Which I think is pretty good.

Nobody else there knew any of their lines or their songs except me, because after we get to where I come in, we literally had a 20 minute blocking rehearsal for the rest of the act.

So, afterwards, our director talks to us about things to work on and things we are doing good on. Well, he tells me that I need to step up because I am holding the production down from being something great and that I should just get my ass outta there because I don't care about putting any effort in.

I was so upset. Everybody else who I have told is just like, whatevs, but I figured you guys are familiar with awful experiences like that.

In my experience, actors are rarely given that kind of feedback without a reason. Since you admit that you haven't reviewed your script and only knew about half your lines, then it sounds like you have work to do. The fact that others were unprepared as well doesn't mitigate your own responsibilty.

Not to be a bitch. I don't have the whole picture - only what you posted. Step up and you can be the one who shines.

I totally understand that, I just have a lot of problems at home with family illnesses (and possible life-threatening illnesses) and I just havent had time.

But I also don't think that I should be the only one pointed out of a 38 person cast (yea, lots of people for little shop...) when I know my lines better for being there for 20 minutes than people who have been there for 20 hours.

We didn't even finish blocking! He then yelled at me and told me it was my fault we didn't finish. When I asked how, he said "It's not done is it? Thats how come its your fault!"

Shocked

It didn't make any sense to me...

Sounds like he was frustrated. What on earth are they doing with 38 people in that show?!? Anyway, all you can do is keep your nose clean and come prepared. You might have been wronged, but that will happen a lot in life. If you want to do theater, it will happen more than if you don't, becasue there are some inherently unfair aspects of the business. Shake it off and come back strong! Smile

He gets frusterated at things that shouldnt frusterate and doesn't care about things that he should.

Such as, getting frusterated at somebody using the bathroom. Doesn't care if somebody doesn't show up to rehearsal.

He's wicked crazy...

And he knows everything going on because with all of the sicknesses and whatever, I may have to leave the show if we get a certain unfortunate piece of news sometime next week. He told me it was alright and family is more important, but then he calls me out in front of everybody saying I have no excuse. Maybe hes bipolar or something...
