Our production of RENT here in Canberra, Australia has picked up a few nominations in the Canberra Area Theatre (CAT) Awards. The area the awards cover is about a third of the state of New South Wales. (For the non-Aussies, that's a pretty fair size)

We've been nominated for:

Best Musical
Best Musical Direction
Best Chorus
Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Musical) - Angel

The Best Chorus and Best Supporting awards are the ones we have the best chance at. The Best Musical award almost always goes to one of the "big gun" companies in town who run with budgets about 10 times larger than what we had for RENT

Winners will be announced in February.

Were you a amateur theater company of a small pro/semi pro?

Amateur. The amateur rights for RENT were released in Australia earlier this year. In fact, we were the first amateur production in the country (and only the second ever Australian production of RENT)
