First of all Break a leg. My tips would be to have fun when you are auditioning. I know its hard to get rid of nerves but I have found that it helps to take several deep breaths right before I go on to audition. It just helps me focus on what I'm doing. I also try to have fun with my audition piece and show the panel that I really do enjoy being onstage and in the theater. My helping them believe that I'm not afraid I fool myself and I tend to forget about my nerves.

Smile!!!! Shows you are confident and if you are reading dialogue - look up and make eye contact. The best of luck! xxx

it went pretty good i think, i felt better then at school everyone was asking "omg ur auiditon is today are u nervous???" and then that got me more nervous so i didn't do as good as i could have, but it wasn't absoulutly terrible....so im just hoping for the best!

Well done + keep us updated... I think there is a stage mum / dad in every county - it's so annoying and I know how frustrating it is.

Wow.. people actually get their roles changed because of complaints. My God!
In my town, the most favouritism that ever goes on is the occassional pre-cast cameo role or directors asking people they know to audition. Oh.. and one person who famously said, "Oh, I love directing shows, I can make sure all my friends get good roles." Ouch!

pinktink257
|
ya, the production company i do shows with is crazy! parts are changed all the time becasue of the parents...which another reason im worried for the casting of beauty and the beast...

That's horrible.. so much for ethics and justice!

ya...tell me about it

it defeintly happens around me too. and its not just the parents, its like who are the favorite kids and stuff, and they arent even neceissarily the best ones there, they are just the directors favorites..it sucks.

Yeah.. ok, I think I've tasted it too now. I just got understudy Hope in Anything Goes, losing out by such a small margin to a girl who got the teenage female leads in the last two shows. Biased? Maybe.. can't prove it, but I have a feeling.

1) D/W as you are obviously talented enough to be a understudy.
2) Think of all the other people who auditioned (I'm assuming here lol) and you have had a massive achievement.
3) Stuff the other girl. Concentrate on yourself and don't let anyone get to you.
Update us on the situation and if you need anyone to talk to, PM me, and I will give you my MSN.

well, i got mrs. potts. i would be very happy if belle weren't given to someone who had their mom complain.
soo..im gonna make the most of it, and eventually i WILL be belle. somehow.

Don't fret, I know Mrs Potts isn't Belle, but chin up.
I have been extremely down about Anything Goes lately - as the understudy most likely to be needed, I am barely in any ensemble numbers at all, and I have one line in the whole show (the director said that he didn't want gaps in the dancing or script if they had to pull me out of it to be Hope). It sucks, A LOT. I hate the feeling of wanting to do so much, and not being able to do anything.
Anyway, my boyfriend had something to say that made me feel a bit better. It was basically this: I do have the mankiest role in the show, and it is horrible. It especially sucks that I live in another town now, so I often have to travel for an hour and a half to go to rehearsal and end up only being needed for half an hour. But in the end, people will respect me for taking it with good grace. I smile, I turn up to rehearsal on time, I have learnt all Hope's lines and songs (the real Hope hasn't started, by the way), I don't talk when we're rehearsing, which is a hell of a lot more than some other people (even principles) are bothering to do. Basically, by treating my pathetically small part with the seriousness and committment that you would normally expect from a principle, I'm confirming in the minds of the people who count that I would have been a better choice and that they could and should give me a chance next time.
If you're the best damn Mrs Potts you can be, what better revenge is there than to simply steal the show and be ridiculously better than Belle? That's my plan for Anything Goes - for the directors to be sitting there at the end of the show thinking "Oh my God, we so made the wrong choice.. she performed so much better than Hope!" so.. think of it as a stepping stone for your next role - throw as much into it as you can!

Well you got a role. So be happy

Exactly. If you show (sorry is that the right spelling I have serious writer's block?! ) you are committed and try your hardest then you never know in the future you may end up with a lead role. Congrats

My school is doing BatB later this year, I'm going to try to get the part of Belle... Its aiming abit high for me, but I'm still going to try.
If I may, I'm going to grovel for seggestions. I'm completely self taught, as both an actor and a singer. Furthermore, my school is biased towards choir members, upperclassmen... niether of which I am. I'm very dissadvataged, but I'd simply kill to be Belle...
I'm scrapping my pennies together to pay for proper singing leasons... I don't think I can pull it off though, I'm very broke...
I'm going to be required to sing for the audition, at least 16 bars of music. Any seggestions? I have untill winter to prepare...

Public Flogging, I have a pretty good thread going on for Belle singing auditions, a lot of people are helping me so maybe you should check it out for song advice... its called "is this a good song" or something like that. I'm sorry if im not supposed to advertise my thread in another thread.
P.S. Bravo on your great show!
