Auditon Help - Jersey Boys Australia.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hey, hows it going everyone? I have managed to attain, through great effort, my initial audition to take place at the first callback round of auditions. My audition will take place Monday the 14th of April in Melbourne. The help I require concerns song choice. I need to take three songs of the era. I know little of the supposed 'bubblegum' sound I require. I have been called for the part of Tommy Devito, as well some smaller parts throughout the show. I need to bring along my guitar and sing as well as perfect a jersey accent by the audition time. I, luckily enough, have a fantastic vocal coach so the dialogue should be manageable. Any tips would be fantastic. I thought that songs like 'Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me' or 'Unchained Melody' were reasonably choices. The problem I face is that, til this point, I have sung very little pop music. My background lies as Operatic Tenor and thus I pray I can also get rid of my terrible round tones. Any ideas for either of my conundrums? |

I think tips over the internet re your singing won't help you a lot, your vocal coach should be able to help you with this type of sound. It shouldn't matter that you are a trained operatic singer, that's the basis of everything and you can now use that to move on into other spheres of singing. Your song choices sound fine, I suggest you have a look at some Buddy Holly as well, good songs to play on a guitar too. |

I agree with the above. A Buddy Holly song would be a great choice. "Everyday" is a personal favorite but there are many songs to choose from. There's also Elvis and here is a list of some of the best 1950s bands. Hope this helps. :] |

The website actually has a list of suggestions. (No Four Seasons, though.)

HeyIf anyone's interested, I've decided on:My Girl; Smokey Robinson, which I will play my arrangement of on my guitar. C Major. Unchained Melody; Righteous Brothers. C Major. Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me; Mel Carter. D Major. I have also prepared as per the audition panels request both the Tenor and Baritone parts of 'Who Loves You'. I'll tell you all how it goes. Thank you for all your help to this point. |
