My high school is doing beauty and the beast, and when I found out, I was SO excited. I have loved this show my whole life, both the movie and the musical when i saw it. Today we had our first meeting for the show and they gave us our music for the auditions... and I am getting worried! I am an alto, and though I can sing the occasional high stuff, I am not super strong up there. Our audition songs are part of Be Our Guest and either part of Belle (Oh, isn't this amazing etc..) or Beauty and the Beast. I really would love to be Belle (at my school you don't try out for specific parts until the callbacks), but I am really having trouble singing the high stuff in Be Our Guest!

Honestly I would love to be any part of this show, whether it be Belle or the ensemble! Just thought I'd post here for a little moral support, and if anyone has suggestions on Be Our Guest (or the other two!) I would totally appreciate it.

If you are truly an alto, then belle may not be the part for you. She's really a mezzo, or maybe a pop soprano. You definitely need to have a strong middle and upper middle range. Her highest note is an F, and she has to have many strong D's and E's. Check the vocal range sticky at the top of the page for more info about the characters and their ranges.
