I'm new to musicals.net : )

I will be auditioning for a role in Beauty and the Beast, which my school is putting on.

I want to be either Babette (most wanted) or maybe Ms Potts.

Can you recommend me any songs that would be good for the auditions?

I don't know. I'd like to know a range of songs (both in the show and from other sources) I could use to audition, and I will choose the one I like the best maybe?

What is Babette exactly like? As in the personality..

a tart with a heart Seriously, she spends most of the show flirting with any man that moves, Maurice included. In terms of singing she doesn't have any solo stuff though

^ Not quite true! She has one line of solo in Human Again ("Alert the dustpail and broom") as well as a trio with Potts and Wardrobe ("When we're human again, only human again! When we're knickknacks and whatnots no more") She is also assigned to all of the high "C's" in the show. Not too important, someone else could always do them. ^.^

Also, she has a tango with Lumiere during "Be our Guest"

Regarding her character, she's very, very flirty! She and Lumiere seem as if they're always trying to make the other jealous. xD

AH, Babette is honestly SO much fun. I've done theater all my life, and she has been my favorite role to date. She's fun, flirty, and knows she can get anything she wants with a few bats of the eye or a little hip shaking. She's intelligent, and beautiful! Hehe.

But songwise, if you want to audition with something from the show then "Human Again" is a good choice.. it's simple, but since you won't be too concerned with hitting extreme notes, you can show off a prepared character!

I just finished BATB and when I auditioned, it was for Babette.

We had to sing two songs also. From the show, I sang the wardrobe's verse in Human Again - adding a little bit of Babette's character - basically just to show my range.

Outside of the show I sang 'Take Me or Leave Me', from RENT. I like to think Maureen and Babette are similar characters - knowledgable and experienced women that can still get hurt.

Granted, I was cast as a Silly Girl, but my audition went well. Break a leg!
