Auditioning on video

I will be auditioning soon for something over video that we are emailing to the director. I am wondering any specifics of video auditions- what the backdrop should be (I was thinking outside or in front of my house, but somehow that seems too cheesy... yes or no?), how I should dress, how I should do my makeup, and anything I should say before doing my song and monologue.

First off, you may want to change the title of this- "virtual audition" has a different definition here and people may ignore your thread.

You should probably slate before doing your monologue and song. A general one I use is:

Hi/Hello/Hey/Whats up dude?, my name is _________ and I will be doing a monologue/song for you called _________ written/composed by _______
*slight pause*
do your song/monologue
*slight pause*
Thank You.

As for attire, just look nice, and the backdrop shouldn't matter too much except I wouldn't do it outside because of noise.

this is for the auditions for nyu, but it has some good tips

Maybe Chevstriss can give you some advice. She's done a few video taped auditions before and she knows her stuff. Try PM her and ask for her suggestions.
