Firstly, i want to let you know that Tevye is probably the most difficult role for a 16 year old to portray, but if you are a strong actor then go for it.
When we did our auditions our Tevye was required to sing if i was a rich man

"If I Were A Rich Man" is probably too easy a choice; it's widely considered Tevye's definitive song. Others might include "Tradition", "Sabbath Prayer" (mostly Tevye's song, though Golde has some lines), "To Life", or the monologues with Motel and Perchik.
If they co-audition you with Golde, you might try your respective choruses of "Sunrise, Sunset" and/or "Do You Love Me?"

Are you required to sing a song from the show, or are you supposed to sing something different?

In that case, you could try "Standing on the Corner (Watching All The Girls Go By)" from "The Most Happy Fella" (which does not have its own forum on this site). The Four Lads recorded that song in 1956, and it's become a standard girl-watchers' anthem - but it's really a song of frustration about not having a more proactive love life. You may be able to translate some of it to Tevye, his frustration at trying to hang onto his traditions, his way of life, in the face of changing ways and rampant anti-Semitism.
