auditioning for gaston/beast

im auditioning in a few weeks for gaston or the beast. and am drawing a blank on audition material. help please

When I auditioned for the show I had two pieces ready. For the Beast I had "Lost in The Darkness" Jekyl and Hyde, It doesn't show a ton of power but it does get the right sentiment for most of the beasts singing. For Gaston it was tough to find music that I felt suited him. I knew he had alot of comedic stuff and was into him self so I Sang "Im not wearing underwear today" from Avenue Q. . If you do it, Do it in a rich almost operatic tone. Gaston is a very legit singer. In my opinion one of the most difficult Charactors to sing in the show. I tryed to sing that role contemporary but finding out the best way to go was very classical and legit. It turned out that I also needed a piece from the show If I were you and they wanted to hear music from the show and you can hit a solid E vowel on a high F. I would sing the last 16 Measure of "If I can't Love her". This is a great show and I hope you do well, Break a leg!!!!

Audition Piece - Gaston/Beast

I auditioned last night and got cast as the Beast in a local community theatre production, and used "Soliliquy" from Carousel. An ambitious piece, but if you can do it and well, you can do any part from this show. It has a high G with a fermata at the end, so the Ab should be easy.

Congrats on the BEAST!!!!! Well the beast doesnt technically go up to an Ab not that I remember anyway I belive his highest note is a belted F. Which comes at the end of "If I cant love her." SOme people claim that you need the Ab in the reprise but It wasnt in our show. So I dont know where that claim comes from.

Thanks for the congrats! The rehearsal process is ongoing and a blast.

Just as an FYI, the Ab is during the duet with Belle (the only true duet for Beast in the show) at the end of the Transformation Song.

By the way, I am curious how others have managed the transformation part.
