Auditioning for Audrey...I'm auditioning for the role of Audrey in this show in May, and I have to decide on an audition song. I will be allowed to sing a good portion of the song (they will stop me, but I will at least get to sing the first half). I was thinking of singing "There's a Fine, Fine Line" from Avenue Q, since it is a ballad like "Somewhere That's Green" but also has the belty elements of "Suddenly Seymour". Also, I think the theme of the song is well-suited to the character.
Would this be a good song choice? I don't really have to worry about it being overdone, because at this particular theatre, most audition pieces are coming from Disney musicals, Hairspray and Wicked.

I think that's a good audition song. It's not a very obscure song, but it's no "On My Own" or "Defying Gravity".

As long as you keep the balance between the belt and the ballad I think you will be fine.
Showing range earns a thumbs up!
Best of luck!

When I did this show, it came down to two of us for Audrey. The other girl sang "Fine, Fine Line" and I did "Adelaide's Lament." I got the part (yay! lol) mainly because my callback was a lot stronger. But, the director did tell the other girl he wanted a more up-tempo song.
Just an FYI. Good luck! It's an awesome part.

I never thought of using Adelaide's Lament, but that really is an excellent choice. Good call!

Haha, thanks. It's an incredibly overdone song, but if you do it well enough it's perfect for Audrey. Plus, where I live it's not really considered overdone, so...yeah.
Good luck!!

My daughter played Audrey in high school, used "Who will love me as I am" from Side Show and got the part. It was the right range, and had a lot of the same kind of feelings as Somewhere That's Green.
