Auditioning for AdelaideAll right, so our school was supposed to do Into the Woods this year. But, unfortuantely, a local (almost proffesional) theatre decided to do it as well for their summer production. All though our show is 3 months before theirs, and we got the rights first, our school board is not allowing us to do Into the Woods anymore. SO we are doing Guys and Dolls instead. I am very happy with this choice, since I did the production last year and had a BLAST, and I am fully determined to get the part of Adelaide.
details on me:
Brown hair, Blue eyes, 5'7, medium-build, vocal range from a G below middle C, to a Eb to octaves above middle C. I normally just do more classical stuff, but lately I've been trying to expand my vocal flexibility.
Previous roles: see sig
I've decided to sing Adelaides Lament, and we will also be doing cold readings (luckily I've read the script, so I'm not too worried about those). There may also be a dance audition, but I don't have to worry about that because I've already been appointed Student Choreographer for the show-and I get to do the Hot Box numbers!
So my question is, are there any past Adelaides-or people who really know the show- out there that could give me any additional advice to nail my audition??

At your school are you supposed to sing a song from the show?
I played Adelaide... although it's been a few years. I'm not sure what I could help you with... I just know that I never liked seeing her... squeaky. Or Ditzy. Just open and trusting and loving.
I'm more of a soprano, and the theater I was with didn't have a sound system, so it was hard for me to project as much as I needed to over the orchestra in my weakest range (I was a replacement for the first Adelaide, who dropped out). I LOVED the Hot Box songs, and the scenes with Nathan. I had an AWEOMSE Nathan.
I guess I'd just say to practice your lower range, since Adelaide doesn't really go above a C (octave aboce middleC) and I think the lowest note is a G.
If you have any specific question, I'll try to help.
When are the auds.?
**** sorry, but this is probably my favorite picture of myself. Me as Adelaide in the Lament:

I love that picture!!
Our school has a great microphone system so projecting is really not an issue. I also see what you're saying about her being squeaky & ditzy, and I will definitely try to stay away from that!
We're allowed to sing any song we want (even happy birthday....) but I know it will be to my advantage to sing Lament. I don't want to be considered for Sarah at all, since my brother is a shoe-in for Sky.
Audtitions are a week from this Thursday, and I have been working on my lower range since I was intially going for The Witch in ITW. I'm actually even singing alto in choir right now.
Thank you so much for replying! The more I read up on Adelaide, the more excited I am for this audition. I know I'll have a lot of competition, but hopefully I'll be able to shine

Well if anyone cares, the auditions just went amazing, and I got cast as Adelaide! And my brother is Sky, so it should be a lot of fun

Yay! Adelaide is a dream role of mine, though I'd probably be cast more as Sarah...

Yeah, I really see myself as more of a Sarah, but my brother got Sky, so that would have been....weird.
