Auditioning for a professional companySo I plan on auditioning for Sacramento Music Circus this March.
The new season consists of:
Gypsy
Sweeney Todd (Original Version)
Swing!
My Fair Lady
Evita
Hairspray.
So I won't be auditioning for a particular show. It will be a general audition. We are requested to sing one ballad and one up-tempo song.
Since I am doing a general audition, I don't know what songs to sing.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I am a 16 year old male.
I am a 2nd tenor, but can sing middle-high baritone as well.
Thanks!

What kind of songs do you have in your rep at the moment? What shows/songs do you like?

If they don't mind you doing a song from one of the shows in your season, I would recommend "All I Need Is the Girl" from Gypsy for your uptempo.

My rep is basically empty.
Right now I am really into Les Mis, The Wiz, Beauty and the Beast, Into the Woods, Once Upon a Mattress, The Producers, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Urinetown, and You're a Good Man Charlie Brown.

You need to do lots of listening and research to see which songs suit you and your voice, especially from more classic shows. Since you are 16, you will want to look at young material. From the shows you mention, I wouldn't choose any material to audition with apart from maybe something from "You're a good man Charlie Brown", the rest doesn't really suit your age - "Giants in the sky" from Into the woods would suit but it's a big risk if you don't have a brilliant accompanist. Also a pretty popular choice.
A few ideas...
Ballads:
"Love I hear" from Funny thing happened on the way to the forum (Sondheim)
"Right as the rain" from Bloomer Girl
"My best girl" from Mame
"Why should I wake up" from Cabaret
"Where did that little dog go" from Snoopy
Uptempo/character:
"That's for me" from State Fair
"You've got that thing" from Fifty Million Frenchmen
"Old enough to love" from By the beautiful sea
"Today is the first day of the rest of my life" from Starting here Starting now
"I can see it" from The Fantasticks
